Occupation: Compulsive Shopper

I do not know a single soul who does not love to go shopping. I mean, with each and every new bag, shoes, clothes and accessories coming out of the market every now and then, it is not possible for even a single man or woman to not hunger for something brand new that she or he just got to purchase. I recall exactly how it feels to desire to shop for the latest devices, the newest leather bags, the newest shoes, the trendiest clothes and a luxurious set of jewelry. All of it and so much more. This reminds me of how much most girls thirst to go shopping, even if it’s the last thing they’d do before the end of the world.
Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Prada, Yves Saint Laurent, Hermes. The list goes on and on. These are usually the names that girls call upon when they get sick. These usually are comforting and easing and comfort words to them. In numerous adult men I know, they call upon Burberry, Calvin Klein, John Varvatos, Dolce & Gabbana and so much more. There are usually a lot of brands that adult males and most women share too so don’t get confused as you go shopping. A large number of designers have fashion lines suited for both blokes and a lot of women, and all these names are generally answering to 3 of the best when it comes to status symbol. VISA, MasterCard and American Express. I know various others but they did not make it to the list due to fluctuating fame. I’d rather stick with the giants to play it safe.
A lot of women have a tendency to be compulsive shoppers. It is according to experience so don’t lash out on me just yet. A lot of women of all ages go to malls and they are like rats scattering all over the place. They search just about every corner, every single store, and just about every hanger. Leaving no traces of second thoughts in grabbing everything they could get their hands on. Specifically during a season sale. You will notice an ocean of girls raging to the mall entrance, waiting for security to open the mall’s doors, and when they do, it is a great stampede. Similar to a pack of hungry wolves finding their way across of the woods to find their prey. And you better get out of their way if you want to help to make it to your next itinerary safely.
In a cable TV show where a group of people helps out families to clean out the serious clutter problem they have at home, there was this one episode of a woman who spends so much on shopping, to the point that she has still haven’t used at least 50% of the things she has purchased. And the best part is, all the stuff is scattered and piled up in mounds across the living room to the kitchen until the bedroom. That was the first time I ever saw mountain ranges of clothes, bags, shoes, scarves, hats and undies, all in one big pile.
These different types of neurotic shoppers could actually feed an entire community for months, even if they sold each item at half of its original price. The point I am trying to drive at is that shopping may be fun and educating at the same time. You can easily learn a lot from shopping in the event you only know how to separate your needs from your would like and I assure you, you’ll certainly not have to call for a clean house.

Everything You Ever Wanted to Know about Healthy Snacks
Posted by Ken Kudra | Filed under Food & Beverage
Eating healthy doesn’t mean you need to miss out when it comes to snack time or the holidays. Sure, you may see your friends gorging on sugary foods, but you know better. You can enjoy many snacks and appetizers that are healthy and taste great. Try serving them at your next party and watch how fast they go.
One easy option that does your body good is salsa. Make a nice chunky salsa with onions, tomatoes, cilantro, and peaches. It is extremely colorful and easy to make. Serve it up in a bowl with toasted tortillas or chips as a snack. For an appetizer, just put a small spoon of salsa on a chip and set the chip on a platter. Repeat until the platter is full. No one will be able to resist this colorful dish!
If you have some practice in the kitchen you can make up some California rolls. Crab is a delicious treat anytime. The dried seaweed used to roll up the sushi is called nori. You can find some at your local Asian market. This is a variety of sushi that everyone can enjoy. Make some for a snack or even for your lunch. If you need something to bring to a party, slice up the roll and arrange it on a platter so everyone can be amazed at your abilities.
Bruschetta is another wonderful option. Toast some slices of French or Italian bread. Top it off with fresh chopped tomatoes, herbs and perhaps a little cheese. Enjoy it with a beverage for a delicious snack. You can also make them as appetizers that will be enjoyed at any party, large or small. Make up a healthy pizza recipe for your meal or a snack. For appetizers, just cut it up in bite size pieces. This is a great fast dish when you’re on the go.
If you like salad, you’re in luck. Make up a healthy green salad. Make sure you chop all the pieces into small, easy to handle bits. Toss it with the salad dressing. This is a fabulous meal or snack at any time of the day. Need some quick appetizers? Take several lettuce leaves. Spoon some salad into each leaf and wrap it up. Fasten it with a toothpick and voila! Healthy appetizers full of flavor and goodness!
If you like to snack on finger foods, snack time is simple. Pour out a can of olives. Slice up some cheese. Take out the box of cherry tomatoes you bought at the store. Put them on a plate and you can pick and choose what flavor you want next. To make this snack party friendly, try putting these ingredients on small skewers. This makes noshing portable and easy.
When it comes to holiday appetizer recipes you can apply these same principles to come up with healthy alternatives to sugary, high fat choices. You can serve appetizers that look delicious and taste just as good as they look. Give your guests a healthy choice at your next holiday party. Bring them to parties you attend. Spread the health.
Lots of these snacks and appetizers are easy and take only minutes to make. This causes you less stress on days when you are already running late, but they let you eat the nutrients you need in a snack that tastes great. Try some and you’ll find it is easy to change any unhealthy eating habits.
Simple holiday appetizer recipes are the answer to a stressed holiday season. Keeping it simple lets you relax and enjoy yourself. Don’t get caught up in all the details or by trying to make everything fancy. Simple fare is refreshing and usually better for you and your guests.

If You Rave About Spaghetti Carbonara You Will Like This !
Posted by Steve S Lobston | Filed under Food & Beverage
Spaghetti, Carbonara is an Italian pasta dish using eggs, pecorino romano, guanciale, and black pepper. The dish was established in the middle of the 20th century.
The recipes vary, however all agree that cheese (Parmesan, pecorino, or a mixture), egg yolks (or whole eggs), cured fatty pork, and black pepper are basic. The pork is fried in fat (olive oil or lard); a mixture of eggs, cheese, and butter or olive oil is combined with the hot pasta, cooking the eggs; the pork is then added to the pasta. Guanciale is the most traditional meat, but pancetta is also used. In the US, it is frequently made with American bacon.
Cream is not usual in Italian recipes, but is used in the United States, France, Spain, the United Kingdom, Australia and Russia (especially in Moscow). Other Anglo/Franco variations on carbonara could include peas, broccoli or other vegetables added for colour Another American version includes mushrooms. Nearly all these preparations have more sauce than the Italian versions.
In all versions of the recipe, the eggs are added to the sauce raw, and cook (coagulate) with the heat of the pasta itself.
Try this spicey version !
This spicy interpretation of spaghetti carbonara is made with common ingredients including bacon, garlic, black pepper, red pepper, parmesan cheese, olive oil, cream, and eggs.
Serves 8
Ingredients for Spicy Spaghetti Carbonara:
1 pound bacon (cut into 1/2 inch pieces)
2 pounds spaghetti or other pasta
2 pasteurized eggs (equivalent of 2 eggs, pasteurized)
1/8 pound grated parmesan cheese
16 ounces whipping cream (1 pint)
3 tbsp butter or olive oil (or mixture of two)
2 tsp Red Wine Vinegar
1 clove Garlic (minced)
1 tsp Crushed Red Pepper (or more to taste)
1 tbsp Black Pepper (or more to taste)
Instructions
Bring a big pot of water to a boil whilst cooking the bacon.
Cook the bacon until it starts to get crisp and almost all fat has cooked out. Drain the fat. Add the butter or olive oil, garlic, and black pepper. Contunue cooking for 3 to 5 more minutes.
Add the pasta to the water and cook as instructed. Meanwhile, add the cream and vinegar to the bacon, stir and cook over medium heat until the sauce thickens (it should be the right consistency at about the same time that the pasta is ready). While the sauce is thickening (and the pasta cooking) thoroughly blend the eggs with the red pepper and grated cheese.
When the pasta is ready, drain, and put in a serving bowl. Add the egg and cheese mixture and toss. While tossing, add the bacon and cream sauce. It is superb. Hope you enjoy !

Just How Come Texas Style Barbecue Is So Exceptional
Posted by Paul Anderson | Filed under Food & Beverage
In fact, each time I put a tender slice of Texas style barbecue into my mouth, all the juicy and flavorful piece of meat convinces me the Texans where the only ones to perfect the barbecue art. Nonetheless, it isn’t just all the taste factor, the Texas barbecue enjoy equal acceptance as health food.
Like everyone else, if you are wondering what exactly makes the Texas barbecues so special, I will tell you that it’s almost everything. Should you go to make a list, all the whole lot will feature in it - right from seasoning to cooking food and smoking to presentation. Above all, you’ll demand patience! Should you falter presently there, you’ll spoil all the barbecue.
Texas type barbecue isn’t cooked within the standard grilling process. The secret to grilling melting soft and succulent Texan barbecues, is to prepare them slowly over low temperature and indirect heat. All the decrease all the temperature (say, between 200 to 250 degree F) from the pit or grill, the lesser is going to be all the moisture-loss and so the piece of meat will not get dry. In fact, it is this prolonged process of cooking (around 6 to 7 hours) which renders even unusual and more hard cuts like a brisket, shoulder or ribs utterly delicious.
Adding to this lusciousness, this deliciousness from the Texan style barbecues is the frequent use of mop sauce. Immediately after the meat has been smoke treated, say for all the initial Two to 3 hours, it is basted with a mop sauce containing bacon, beef broth, lemon, pepper, onions, etc. and turned every 30 minutes for an additional 3 to 4 hours.
Smoke from the hardwoods like mesquite, pecan, hickory and fruit woods give the Texan barbecues a typical sweet flavor. Utilized with charcoal, they improve the food value of Texan barbecues. All the much talked-about reddish colored smoke-ring that forms around all the internal edge of the meat as a result of a chemical reaction among smoke and air (nitrogen) is an additional specialty of Texan type barbecues; it is usually considered that the bigger all the ring, all the greater is its penetrating power and consequently stronger favorable effects on health.
This speaks for the taste and wellness advantages from the Texan type barbecue, but exactly what about its looks! Nicely, you can easily give an appetizing look to your Texas type barbecue by slicing each piece across the grain from the meat. Now, whenever you offer all the Texas barbecues, your guests will be eager to enjoy the well-cooked aroma from the steaming barbecues cuts and will gather around the dining table to bite into the savory, succulent Texas BBQ.

French Cooking And The Crepe
Posted by Claire Benoit | Filed under Food & Beverage
Safe to say that the best cooking in the world will aways make the most of its ingredients. This is why French cooking ranks at the top. Perhaps the finest example of using a simple dish to create innumerable variations is the crepe. Consisting of only a very thin pancake wrap, it is the ideal canvas for culinary artists. The range of desserts, entrees and snacks are ever growing.
Sweet
Most chefs’ and diners’ first introduction to this dish, since it blends perfectly with a variety of sweet ingredients, is through either the dessert or breakfast menu.
As a breakfast item, the Nutella crepe is quite popular. It is filled with a creamy hazelnut chocolate spread and goes wonderfully along side morning cup of coffee.
For an after-dinner treat, the Suzette a French classic. It’s served with orange zest, doused in the French liqueur, Grand Marnier, and includes a dollop of whipped cream. This is sure to pop up on any French restaurant menu.
Savory
Considering that it is merely a wrap in its bare form, this delicacy is ideal for experimentation. It’s for this very reason that so many cooks and diners have grown to love it served as a savory dish.
As for meat lover entrees, chefs have been known create them with fish, chicken, beef and pork. Just about everything really. There isn’t a classic savory version per se, as with the sweet, but some menus include Bacon and Mushroom or Chicken Pesto as well as Salmon.
There are less heavy options available as well. It wouldn’t be French unless cheese was allowed to make an appearance and it has throughout a range of recipes. Vegetable fillings such as spinach and leeks have become a popular inclusion as well for those seeking a healthier snack.
An Enduring Staple
With such versatility, it would be hard to imagine anyone disliking this delicacy. Certainly in the context of French cooking, it has evolved into so many creations that there has to be at least one that satisfies any diner’s cravings. There’s no mystery why it’s a culinary favorite and no doubt that its variations will only continue to grow.

The History Of Chicago’s Pump Room Restaurant
Posted by Ross Everett | Filed under Food & Beverage
One of the few restaurants in the country to be immortalized in a Sinatra song, the Pump Room in Chicago is now a hot spot once again. The Pump Room was one of the first quality restaurants to open in Chicago after the end of Prohibition, and soon became a Windy City icon. In addition to Sinatra (who sang the praises of the place in the classic song Chicago), the place was a favorite hangout of a lot of famous people including Marilyn Monroe, Sammy Davis, Humphrey Bogart, Clark Gable, Ronald Reagan, Bette Davis and numerous others. The Pump Room, named after a spa in Bath, England, remained open long after the giants that once graced its premises had left. Unfortunately, time took its toll on the legendary establishment, and its culinary fare was soon surpassed by the fine dining scene exploding in Chicago and characterized by uber-chef Charlie Trotter.
The Pump Room opened in’38 under the ownership and management of Ernie Blyfield. He took the name from an’th century London pub favored by celebrities and nobility, including Queen Anne. The original pub got its name from the hot drinks pumped into the cocktails of its stylish clientele.
The Chicago Pump Room was a smashing success from the time it opened. It’s most desired table reserved for ‘A list’ celebrities was Booth #1, which for a time may have been the most sought after table at any dining establishment in the country. Booth #1 at various times hosted Frank Sinatra and his associates, Bogart and Bacall, Judy Garland and daughter Liza Minnelli, John Barrymore and countless others.
After Blyfield’s death in’50, the Pump Room lived on as a Chicago hot spot and welcomed a new era of big names including Mel Brooks, Paul Newman, Robert Redford and Eddie Murphy. One of the most famous stories surrounding the club involves former Genesis drummer Phil Collins, who was refused entry for not wearing a jacket. This inspired the title of his next album ‘No Jacket Required’ which has sold over– million copies worldwide and established Collins as a solo superstar. Following its release, the Pump Room sent Collins an apology–and an appropriate jacket for him to wear on his next visit.
Since being purchased by the Dallas Restaurant Group in the late’90s, things are hopping again, however. With the extremely talented chef Martial Noguier at the helm (who has worked in the kitchen of a number of Frances most renown chefs), and a $2 million dollar restoration of the facilities, the Pump Room is back among the rarefied heights of Chicagos best restaurants. Though the flaming food served on a sword that was the Pump Room trademark during its golden era is sadly absent (due to city fire codes), the menu is now up to snuff serving Noguiers sophisticated interpretation of classic American cuisine. In addition to the revamped cuisine, the Pump Room upgraded its wine offering and expanded the bar area.
The Pump Rooms stature has been maintained by current executive chef Nick Sutton. The star of the place, however, is still the almost palpable sense of history that the dining room offers. Considering that the giants of civilized culture”from Bogey all the way to the Chairman himself”have held court in that room, it is a pretty intoxicating aura. Fortunately, the Pump Room is once again worthy of such legends, and its renaissance is a victory for culinary civility in a world too often overwhelmed with Olive Gardens and Red Lobsters.

Tap Water Versus Filtered Water? - Cooking
Posted by Veronica Carrillo | Filed under Food & Beverage
Is your crock-pot sitting hidden inside one of your cabinets? It’s time to take it out! A crock-pot, or slow cooker, is an efficient, energy-saving, and time-saving little (or big!) item. It can really reduce stress in the kitchen. It also allows you to easily serve home-cooked, healthy meals to your family. I’m a mother just like you, and honestly, it’s hard to get home cooked food on the table every day. Life is just hectic and there are so many responsibilities for us as moms. Sometimes I’m just tired - and by the time 5:30pm rolls around I certainly don’t want to cook. This can result in our families eating fast food, or processed convenience foods much more often than we’d like to. This costs a lot of money - and it costs the health of the family.
These practical cooking tools have evolved into multi-tasking heavyweights. They have lots of bells and whistles that your mother and grandmother would have wanted. Sizes cover a broad range, from 1 quart to 7 quart, even 8 quart capacity. The newest models include programming features, multiple temperature settings, multiple and removable stoneware inserts, hinged lids, clamp-on lids, and the list goes on.
Slow cookers continue to be popular because they serve the needs of busy moms and home cooks to make easy, delicious meals for their families. You can create a meal, set it cooking, and have dinner underway while doing other tasks. Or, cook the meal overnight, refrigerate it while you are away from home, and reheat it at dinner time in your microwave.
Do not cook while wearing artificial nails. If you are handling hot food and pans they can get hot and melt while still attached to your fingers. This can give you a nasty burn. Tell your children that cannot touch the oven door. Only touch the oven door yourself by using the handle and always use oven gloves or a towel. Having an eye level oven is a good idea. Not only is it easier to use but it also keeps the hot door out of reach of small children.
You can get a new crock-pot at almost any store. The variety of colors and sizes is wonderful, so you can find the perfect fit for your kitchen. The simplest models offer a dial to choose from “low” or “high.” I highly recommend you get a slightly nicer model that offers a “warm” option as well - it comes in handy. You can also get digital, programmable crock-pots, which can be especially good if you’re a busy working mother and need to get out the door early.
In conclusion, the kitchen has many dangers of getting burnt. Burning yourself, your family members, guests or pets is an experience to be avoided. By following the suggestions in the article I hope that you will find it easier to keep everyone in your kitchen area safe from burns.
