Ezekiel 38 and 39 - Gog and Magog?

I got some a great response from a believer in Minnesota in regards to an article I wrote about Gog and Magog being prior to the millenniual reign of Christ on this earth. We find references to Gog and Magog in two different places; one in Revelation 20:8 and the other in Ezekiel 38 and 39.
He stated, “you were talking about Gog and Magog on THIS side of the Millenium - actually Armageddon is on this side and Gog and Magog are at the end of the Millenium”
This was a solid point that was made. He was correct and so was I.
Revelation 20:8 refers to after the 1,000 year kingdom of Messiah and Ezekiel is referring to a time prior to the tribulation period. Here was my response to our brother.
Son of man, set thy face against Gog, the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy against him, And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal: And I will turn thee back, and put hooks into thy jaws, and I will bring thee forth, and all thine army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed with all sorts of armour, even a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords: Persia, Ethiopia, and Libya with them; all of them with shield and helmet: Gomer, and all his bands; the house of Togarmah of the north quarters, and all his bands: and many people with thee. Ezekiel 38:2-6
This is Meshech (Moscow), Tubal (Tobolsk), Persia (Iran), Ethiopia (quite possibly what is now the Sudan), Libya, Gomer and Togarmah (possibly Turkey) will gather with as a coalition against “the land that is brought back from the sword, and is gathered out of many people, against the mountains of Israel”
They will come down to “take a spoil” (Ezekiel 38:12) which is why I believe brother Branham could say Russia will come down against Israel for their oil, which they are just now discovering, amazingly enough.
Now, this is the reason I believe this scripture will come to pass before the tribulation period.
As a result of the war God will send fire and hailstones out of heaven to destroy the armies gathered against Israel.
And they that dwell in the cities of Israel shall go forth, and shall set on fire and burn the weapons, both the shields and the bucklers, the bows and the arrows, and the handstaves, and the spears, and they shall burn them with fire seven years: So that they shall take no wood out of the field, neither cut down any out of the forests; for they shall burn the weapons with fire: and they shall spoil those that spoiled them, and rob those that robbed them, saith the Lord GOD. And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will give unto Gog a place there of graves in Israel, the valley of the passengers on the east of the sea: and it shall stop the noses of the passengers: and there shall they bury Gog and all his multitude: and they shall call it The valley of Hamongog. And seven months shall the house of Israel be burying of them, that they may cleanse the land. Ezekiel 39:9-12
According to Ezekiel’s prophecy they will be cleaning up from the destruction that God wrought for 7 years and it will take 7 months to bury all the dead. After the millennium a fire comes from heaven to cleanse the entire earth. There will be no need to spend 7 years cleaning up the mess and burying the dead.
Of course, the sure test of whether we are interpreting prophecy correctly is whether it comes to pass or not. I believe we have evidence this could take place any day now. We see the pieces of the puzzle being put in place with the alliance between Russia and Iran, they have arms deals and Russia is stating that they will not allow any kind of sanctions against Iran. Even so, come Lord Jesus, come!

These Are Tough Times For Our Economy

2009 it a tough year economically for many as there are lots of people losing their jobs or in fear of losing their jobs. Debt is a big problem for many and now that President Obama is in office, one wonders what he has done for the common person to help? He has helped pass the stimulus bill but will that help normal people at all with their daily finances?
If there is any good news, it is that grants have often been overlooked by people as a way to get through hard times. Not that many individuals know much about grants and how to get them and there is little information in the news. This increases your chance of getting one if you give it a try.
Government grants are free and there should be no charge to apply for them. Nevertheless, just like anything the government does, grants are confusing and it is not an easy process to apply for one. It is possible to waste a lot of time trying to figure out the steps involved and this discourages a lot of people. Add to this the fact that not too many individual grants exist and you have a situation where you might be better off trying to figure out another way to get money.
Americans have been hoping the stimulus bill would start to turn the economy around and as yet it seems nothing has changed. Universal Healthcare Reform

All the big news right now is the universal health care reform proposals. Well, here’s the best alliance for health care reform idea so far. Let’s start with a little background information.
You really should take a listen to Anthem by Ayn Rand. Ayn Rand wrote several amazing works of fiction addressing the individual versus society. Her books really make you think, where is our main responsibility, to the individual, or to the government? Are we looking for the government to reform our health, or should we make health care reform be about individuals?
Earlier this year, I heard Meme Roth of NAAO talk about how it was important for the Surgeon General to set a good example, and get her weight at a healthy level. Meme made a lot of sense. Obesity right now is the #1 challenge to our nation’s health. Not the insurance companies. The number 1 challenge is overweight problems.
You really should read Mindless Eating: Why We Eat More Than We Think. It has some great ideas about how we can all improve, evolve if you will, and gain greater control over our personal habits. We control our eating. This is something that must be controlled by the individual. Not the government. Not the doctors. Not your spouse. You.
In his book about mindless eating, Wansink makes a profound statement. It goes something like this: in the 1800’s, the big advance was hygiene. In the 1900’s the big advance was antibiotics and surgery. In the 2000’s, the big advance will be in personal behavior.
Reforming our personal behavior is the greatest health care reform challenge facing the world today. The Clinton health care reform failure was justified, because it put the role of government above the individual. Yes, as a society, we are overweight. But we do it as individuals.
So let’s do something really big!
Let’s do this together. Lets become as fit as we can be, as a nation, and as a world. We all will save TONS of money. Staying healthy until you die simply costs less. Being healthy makes people more positive, and less likely to fight. You can work more when you are healthy.
We need to incentivize ourselves, and incentivize our neighbors. The government can help by putting into place bold and audacious taxes and benefits that will encourage eating right and exercise. If that’s all the government did, we would all get healthier, and save some money for our children.
If you want an employer based program, great! Have all employers pay employees their gym fees or allow them to go to the gym during work hours.
If you want a government option, great! Have the government give people tax breaks for buying vegetables. Raise junk food taxes. The politicians can have their win, and actually save instead of spend money. We know that healthy, fresh food costs more than junk food. So pay schools to buy more local, fresh food.
The fundamental issue is prevention. Because we all know that prevention is the best cure.
We can give our kids a clean planet, good physical health, financial responsibility, and moral clarity. We need to act responsibly by eating right, exercising, and smiling.
All of us certainly need to demand that the government stop out of control spending, 100%, right now. We can pass along some money to our children, and pay our bills.

Killing for Ratings?

Literally. That is the accusation against Wallace Souza, a former police officer, politician and TV host in Brazil. Souza hosts a highly-rated real crime television program based in Manaus, a city deep in the Amazon rainforest. Souza and his son Rafael (who is currently incarcerated on multiple charges, including homicide) are accused of orchestrating murders, and then sending out his TV crews to get exclusive video and thereby boost his ratings on his TV show Canal Livre (Free Channel).
But wait, theres more: Souza is also accused of being a drug trafficker, and that the murder victims were often his competition for drug operations in the area. Talk about killing two birds with one stone.

Canal Livre depicts the rise of crime in and around Manaus, and the state of Amazonas. The city of Manaus has a population of 1.7 million people in a region that is otherwise sparsely populated, but largely lawless. It is a hub city for all sorts of goods as it sits on the confluence of the Negro and Solimoes rivers. It is also a hub for drug traffickers throughout the Northern part of South America.

Government is Taking Our Money and Spending it Wastefully

Over the last year, Unites State Government has passed several unprecedented spending bills. Unless you have been living under a rock, you have heard of the Stimulus Bills. Lawmakers told us that these bills were needed to save the economy. One look at the government’s spending report for Fiscal Year 2009 provides multiply examples of wasteful government spending.
$14.6 million for brown snake tree control. Over the last ten years, Representatives Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii) and Representative Madeline Bordallo (D-Guam) have brought home $14.6 mllion in earmarks for brown snake tree control. In Fiscal Year 2009, they received $1.2 million alone. Are brown snakes such a problem that they are worth $14.6 million? $1.2 million is a great example of wasteful government spending, let alone $14.6 over ten years!
$50,000 for tree replacement. House of Representatives Appropriator Carolyn Kilpatrick ( D-Mich ) requested $50,000 for tree replacement. The tree was in River Rouge, MI. River Rouge, MI is a town of less than 10,000 people. Maybe the trees did need replaced but why should the federal government pay for it? Just because Carolyn Kilpatrick (D-Mich) could get it done and maybe get a few votes? Carolyn Kilpatrick (D-Mich), thank you for a shining example of wasteful government spending.
Lets talk about the outlandish Military Spending going on in this country. Senate Military Construction Appropriations Subcommittee member Daniel Inouye (D-Hawaii), Senator Daniel Akaka (D-Hawaii), and Representative Neil Abercrombie (D-Hawaii), requested $30,000,000 for Phase Five of an access road at the Pohakuloa Training Area. Since 2002 this Training Area has received six earmarks worth $74.4 million. How many Phases does an access road have? Is 70 plus million not enough to complete this project? Why is it taking the better part of 7 years to complete? When a project raises this many questions from an everyday civilian, then theres definitely something wrong. We have kids walking into schools and maliciously shooting other children. Why dont we invest this money on something much more important, like keeping illegal guns off the streets and out of the hands of children, possibly even a Gun Awareness and Education Program..
Democrats make a large issue of, their perceived, trouble with military hospitals and veterans’ benefits. However, these are not the main items they are requesting money for. Senators Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.), Charles “Chuckie” Schumer (D-N.Y.), and Representative Louise Slaughter (D-N.Y.) requested $9,000,000 for Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station. Not an unusual amount for military spending, however, this was for a dining hall.
Another example of wasteful government spending comes from Ames, Iowa. Swine farms give off a large amount of odor. I am sure most people would agree that pigs can be stinky. Would they label this a problem for the federal government? Senator Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) would. He recently requested #1.791 million to research odor management for pigs. That gives new meaning to “pork barrel spending”.
Humans also give off stinky manure. Larry the Cable Guy has even made a living with jokes about his bathroom habits. Swine are not the only ones. Should we spend $1.791 million studying how to make human feces smell better. Would any American defend this as the best use of federal funds?
For several years, Department of Defense has worked on a new jet plane. The Joint Strike Fighter would provide America a more advanced piece of military machinery. There is no surprise in this plane. Keeping Americans safe requires that we develop the newest weapons. What is surprising is the jet’s engines. A successful engine has been developed. Congress decided that the engine would be cheaper is there was competition. $465 million was allocated to develop a second engine. Not because the first one did not work, just to make competition. Some would call this wasteful government spending.
There were 435 Representatives and 100 Senators that refused to be identified with this massive waste of taxpayers dollars. Does that tell you something? If the elected officials that we have put in office are ashamed to be connected with an Earmarked Bill such as this, then it makes you wonder why the money was even appropriated for this nonsense. Do we really need to allot $465 million to build engines on a competition level?

Second Hand Books Shops Feel The Pinch from Oxfam

Oxfam is under criticism from second hand book dealers. It is rare that feel the need to take a pop at such a well loved charity as Oxfam. But things have got so bad for the second hand book industry that they are willing to speak out and claim that Oxfams bookshops are putting them out of business.
They claim that Oxfam is the “Tesco of the second hand book market” and that the unfair competition from Oxfam is responsible for the close of many seconds hand book shops over the last 15 years.
Since opening its first second hand book shop in 1987 Oxfam now has 121 second hand bookshops in different parts of the country, selling over 19 million pounds worth of books lat year, and is considered the largest retailer of second hand books in Europe.
Dealers have argued that Oxfam is able to compete unfairly in the marketplace due to there charitable status, they get free staffing from volunteers, they do not have to pay for stock and also they get an 80% reduction on business rates due to there charitable status.
Oxfam have responded by pointing out that there are many other factors affecting the profitability of second hand book sellers, such as the fall in new book prices, and ability to buy second hand books online.
Bookdealers seem unclear about what measures should be taken. Do they want Oxfam stopped from selling books? Do they reject the idea that an obvious charity should receive charitable status? Do they believe they should receive free product and staffing to be donated to themselves by general populace so they can make personal profit?

Debt Management Industry Prepares of Ministry of Justice Regulation

The Debt management industry is facing new regulation expected to come from the Ministry of the Justice. The usual financial watchdog of the UK government the Financial Services Authority is occupied examining the results of the credit crunch and investigating the banking sector in greater detail, so many industry experts now believe the ministry of justice will be positioned to regulate the Debt Industry for the near future.
The numbers of operating debt management companies have increased greatly over the last 18 months, with numbers increasing from 1000 companies to over 3000 presently estimated. Some companies have chosen to go through self regulation; the majority are unregulated unlike insolvency practitioners who are strongly regulated in their processing of IVA’s.
One of the self regulation bodies of the debt industry is the DRF(Debt Resolution forum). This comprises of over 25 of the most influential companies. The DRF has taken measures to allow the debt management industry to self regulate, before legally required to do so by the MOJ.
The Debt Resolution Forum is committed to professional standards across the debt advice industry in which is a goal all its members are fully committed to. They believe any debt resolution provided must meet the position and needs of the debtor, should take into consideration the needs of the creditors and it should be clearly in the best interest of all parties.
Members have taken numbers of steps to improve the quality standards which can be provided to clients. One leading member of DRF has taken the unprecedented step of making the commitment that all its debt advisors will be have passed the Certificate of Debt Resolution, which the DRF has stated “is tangible evidence of DRF’s commitment to professional standards”. Debt Release Direct will be the first company to achieve this standard.
It still in unknown if the ministry of justice will take the self regulation of the DRF into consideration, or will they seek to regulate the debt management industry in an alternative way. Many industry professionals believe this is the most likely outcome, but only the passage of time will tell.
