Six Sigma CAN Improve Your Business

If you mention that your business is considering using Six Sigma, there will probably be some people that will tell you that you are making the wrong decision. Some of these people will have never actually gone for Six Sigma training, or worked on a Six Sigma project. Others will say this based on the fact that they worked on a Six Sigma project that didn’t provide the desired results, but is that the fault of the process, or the training and experience of the people running the project? If you have doubts about whether or not Six Sigma is right for your business, you should seek out other businesses who have used Six Sigma to improve quality and reduce defects.
The companies that speak of these absurdities have obviously never tried Six Sigma Projects for their process improvement. Too many of them feel that crunching numbers isn’t going to achieve customer satisfaction. It’s too bad that most of them are wrong. Having an improved process is only possible when the data is quantified, and that can best be done through Six Sigma Projects. The improved processes will impress customers, address their concerns, and keep the business running in the best shape possible at all times.
The customers are the main purpose of a business in the end, and Six Sigma is definitely NOT a process that is going to scare them away. If anything, customers should be appreciative that they are so much of an importance to a company that the company would go to all the trouble of collecting data and observing them in order to figure out a better, more efficient process or way to eliminate defects in their products.
Many individuals who are against Six Sigma do not have a real understanding of the methodology, and how it is integrated into your business. Others have been on unsuccessful Six Sigma efforts that most likely suffered from inadequate training or inexperienced project leaders. If these people had the proper training from Six Sigma experts they would have a much better understanding of how the methodologies can greatly benefit your company.
Don’t be deterred from using such a useful and versatile process just because a few people are trying to convince some others that it is a herd mentality, a buzz word, an ineffective tool, or anything else when it truly is a great process improvement methodology to work with. Only the people within an organization can determine if Six Sigma is right for their needs, but everyone should at least give it one chance, because the use of quantified data can add a fresh perspective to almost any business.
