Sell Your Home With Curb Appeal

Standing in front of your house, what is the first thing you notice? Does the home look inviting, or does it just blend in to the background?

Here are some tips to make the outside of your house inviting for your friends and family:

* Keep your lawn mowed and remove weeds. A nice lawn goes a long way to improving the appearance of your home. Don’t forget to edge your lawn - you can buy an inexpensive edger and create a clean edge around the entire lawn and around walkways. This is a dramatic and low cost way to really make your home stand out.

2- Make sure that the exterior paint is not peeling. If the exterior paint is peeling make sure you paint the exterior before the real estate agents start bringing buyers to show your home. Peeling paint will reduce the value of your home by at least two thousand dollars and will give room for buyers to find fault. If the exterior needs some pressure washing, do it. It does not cost much and mostly you can do it yourself if you have the time.

* Replace the door hardware. A new handle and lock mechanism can make your front door look brand new. If you can get a deal you replacing the kitchen and bathroom cabinet with the same hardware is a great idea.

4- Adding some color like tulip, dahlias will make your home more attractive. As flowers and colors always indicate the liveliness and will give the buyer the security that the house was well taken care of. If you have bushes, make sure they are properly trimmed every other week until your house is sold.

* Install low voltage landscape lighting along walkways. Even the simplest lighting will bring your home to life at night. You can find some solar light if you are energy conscious.

* If you don’t have a proper path to the front door, consider installing one. Walkways welcome people to your home by inviting them to walk along a path that leads to your front door. The front porch should have ample lighting and balanced features, such as a planter on either side of it.

Creating curb appeal can change the whole look and feel of your home. Having a great looking yard and some color is good for your emotional well being. Summer is here and if you and your kids love being outdoors, a great looking yard will make you feel good and proud of being a home owner.

Revisiting Roman And Greek Bath Houses

Mass bathing is not exactly the modern idea of fun. Why then should you consider implementing the Greek and Roman traditional bath houses into your home? The aesthetic appeal provided by this design is just one reason. Another reason is the ultimate relaxation that will come from the added space and beautiful decor. Swimming pools are not a plausible feature for every private residence, so consider turning your bathroom into a traditional Mediterranean Thermae. To design a bathroom fit for the noblest Roman Emperor just follow these simple steps.

Space is vital. Depictions of the Greek and Roman bath houses (and rooms in general) are spacious. They never lacked of space but instead show grand areas. Having an attached sun room is a good idea to enlarge the bathroom. Have a big tub in the sun room but make sure that it provides privacy by using a one-way glass. Marble floors and furnishings are perfect Roman and Greek themes. Columns are fixtures that are associated with these themes, so you can add these design ideas too for a realistic look. Faucets, shower head, handles and even the tub can be in copper implements. Gold was used in the early times but unless you’re willing to spend a lump sum, copper is the next best thing.

You might think plants are so out of place in a bathroom, but adding a few potted and hanging plants can create the look of the ancient bath houses, which were commonly outdoors. Therefore, the plants will give the natural scenic feel as well as add extra element of seclusion. Soft white linens that are loose and flowing are will make perfect drapes. You can enclose the sun room tub with this fabric for a royalty effect.

To add a bit of color, use an area rug. Traditional Greek and Roman patterns can be found in a local rug shop. This will strengthen your theme while adding comfort and color. Your rug should contain the colors of both the plants used in the room as well as any decorative items.

In order to keep everything organized while giving more decors, use items that are functional but look good with the theme. Urns for example can contain the plants and towels. Big bottles with sophisticated handles can store bath salts, creams and other personal items. Hygiene essentials can be put in antique-inspired containers for the ancient Roman and Greek look.

This ancient design theme will make your bathroom so unique. Where else can you find a place that is reminiscent of the early times bath houses? The romantic look for the bathroom is a surprising yet impressive interior.

Tips On Choosing a New Bathroom Vanity

Remodeling the bathroom is one of the most effective and satisfying projects to undertake in the home which everyone will appreciate. A few years ago there was very little choice when it came to replacing the bathroom vanities. Nowadays, however, this is a different story and there are many types, styles and designs to chose from. So many it fact, it can make your decision quite difficult. Before purchasing a bathroom vanity cabinet there are a few points to consider.

The most common type of vanity unit is the cabinet style which provides a lot of storage space. You will find these in most bathrooms that are fitted with vanities. They are usually around thirty three to thirty five inches high although can be made to order. As they are the most popular, they tend to be cheaper then more contemporary designs that are available. If you are looking for storage space then the cabinet style is ideal.

The furniture style unit is another stylish model to look at. They tend to be smaller then most vanity units and so are ideal for the smaller bathroom. It looks, as the name suggests, like a piece of furniture which is freestanding which makes them very easy to install. They are an quick and easy way to update the bathroom without having to make significant changes to the room. There are quite of different number of designs you can choose from, including those with more storage to those with more design features.

Another type is the vessel vanity unit. These feature a freestanding unit with a bowl shaped vessel sink atop. Again, these are perfect for the smaller bathroom where there isn’t a great deal of room to spare. Replacing your old vanity with one of these will free up some room and give it a more modern look. These types of vanities are very artistic in their appearances and create a wonderful earthy natural look.

When making your purchase consider the size of the bathroom. A smaller unit will free up space and make your bathroom look much larger. Think about the look you want to achieve. If you are going for a contemporary natural look then the vessel vanity is perfect. A furniture vanity is more suited to a traditional looking bathroom. Also think about cost with a vessel set up in the more costlier band of the market.

When looking at the cost, also consider that an updated bathroom could increase the value of your house which could make up for the cost of the vanity. When doing your initial research, going online is a great place to start. You can find examples of all the various styles along with costs.

Is Copper the Best Metal for Plumbing?

Industrial professionals, plumbers and most other machinist professionals in the United Kingdom list copper as the metal of choice for most fabrications. Historians can date the use of copper as far back as ten millennia and believe that only gold and iron were used before copper was discovered. The natural colour of Copper is red, though over time its colour can shift into green.

Copper has been used for a variety of different electrical devices within heating and cooling systems as well as for the pipes that service a house and its use has been common place for almost one hundred years. Recently, professionals in the copper mining industry have begun to raise the price of copper because they are frightened that the world’s copper supply will not be able to meet the demand for the metal.

Copper is most commonly used for water pipes though United Kingdom manufacturing professionals have also begun to use it for the transportation of natural gas. This metal is the standard by which other industrial materials are judged and there isn’t a single building code that doesn’t allow the metal to be used. This is a durable and strong metal and scientists believe that it also has elements that stifle the growth of bacteria on its surfaces while simultaneously protecting humans and larger creatures from germs and other harmful substances.

Copper has proven to be one of the most versatile materials in the domestic plumbing industry. This metal can carry natural gas and water and is non corrosive and resists deterioration. There are many UK based companies that are so sure of copper’s strength that they offer fifty year warranties on all materials that make use of the metal.

In the UK, heating industry professionals have agreed that radiant heating systems are the best household heating systems that one can install in a house. Copper is the best material this underfloor heating. Copper pipes do not pose any risk of leakage or endangering the structural integrity of a home. UK homeowners have begun installing underfloor heating because it is the most efficient method of heating one’s house and it is the most cost effective.

Copper has also been used in refrigeration units and air conditioners because, as easily as it distributes heat, it also effectively distributes cooler temperatures. Air conditioning manufacturers have started incorporating copper into their units with a resounding positive response. Copper has increased the lifetime of the machines as well as their effectiveness in “beating the heat.”

In addition to its heating and cooling properties and its structural integrity, copper is also known for being environmentally friendly. This metal does not go bad and can be recycled indefinitely. It is a natural germ fighter and is often used for doorknobs and surfaces in hospitals. Copper also helps the human body produce haemoglobin and fights against coronary heart disease and high cholesterol levels.

Saving Energy and Your Carbon Footprint

When it comes to energy consumption and conservation, much ado has been made over an individual’s “carbon footprint.” This buzz term has been all over the newspapers, television and even in popular magazines.

What does it mean exactly? The term “carbon footprint” is best defined as the amount of impact that a person and his/her activities have on the environment when that impact is based on the level of greenhouse gases that are produced. That level is measured in carbon dioxide units. There are a number of methods by which a person can calculate his or her carbon footprint: the Life Cycle Assessment, and by the amount of emissions caused by the energy a system uses are the most popular.

Almost every single thing that you do during the day will contribute to your carbon footprint. Even the act of merely breathing in and out will increase your carbon footprint since exhaling creates carbon dioxide.

Asking the residents of the United Kingdom to breathe less is ridiculous so residents would do well to remember that a carbon footprint is actually assigned by his actions: driving his automobile, cooking a meal, the amount of energy consumed while at home, at work and in transit. The amount of carbon even a lazy day can produce is eye opening.

The reason your carbon footprint has become so important in recent years is, simply, the climate of the world is changing drastically and environmental experts claim that the amount of carbon and other greenhouse gasses humans produce is directly responsible for that change. The globe has risen by around .6 degrees Celsius over the last one hundred years. That does not sound like a lot, but it has proven to have quite an impact! The polar ice caps are fractions of what they once were, droughts are happening in places that are known for being wet (the United Kingdom, for example) and the transitional changes of fall and spring are getting much shorter.

The world’s temperature has raised more than half a degree Celsius over the last century. Half a degree sounds small but that half a degree has had an incredible effect. The North Pole almost melted completely this year and the United Kingdom might run out of fresh water within the next few decades.

One of the best ways to cut down on the impact carbon dioxide has on the environment is to plant trees. Trees take in carbon dioxide and convert it to oxygen. The more trees that are planted, the more carbon dioxide is absorbed before it can make its way to the ozone layer!

A Chlorine Shower Filter: Does Anyone Really Need One?

If you are looking for an investment for the sake of your health, a chlorine shower filter may be one of the top things you should purchase. When you shower in chlorinated water, your entire body is affected. And the effects can happy gradually, without you even realizing they are happening. There is a lot to know about showering in chlorine.

Very few people consider tap water as something to drink. The smell and taste is overwhelmingly of chlorine, there is so much added to kill bacteria. To drink a glass of chlorinated tap water is almost like drinking a glass of bleach that has been diluted.

But when it comes to showering, most people jump into the tap water without thinking twice. Yet, chlorine turns to gas at a lower temperature than the water. So we are absorbing and breathing in a higher concentration of chlorine to water.

In a hot shower, the heat opens up our pores. This makes it that much easier for the chlorine in the water to be absorbed into the pores of our skin and into the blood. The toxin is also breathed into the lungs. Your intake of chlorine in a shower is far more than you would get if you did drink tap water. Many studies have now confirmed that showering can indeed be hazardous to your health.

Several different shower filters are available today to filter chlorine. Most shower filters used to use a charcoal based media. These filter out some, but usually not all, of the chlorine. However, bacteria can also breed in this type of media, and they will then be in the water you shower with.

A newer available technology is a media called KDF. This filters out a variety of elements including heavy metals and chlorine. It uses an ionic charge method to remove the chlorine, and is able to take out about 99%. An added benefit is that bacteria do not form in this media.

With either kind of shower filter, most styles are the type that has replaceable filters. You will know it is time to replace your filter when the smell of chlorine is very strong. How often that will be is going to depend on the number of people using it, how often showers are taken and for how long.

Physical design can also be important in choosing your shower filter. Some filters have the media attached in place of the shower head or between the shower head and the pipe. This has the effect of decreasing the space to stand underneath the shower. Other types have the media to the side or above which does not take away any precious head space.

It will probably take some time to research available chlorine shower filters but there is definitely one that will meet both your needs and your budget. But do not make your choice based on price alone, or even design. How effective it is at filtering is the single most important thing on which to base your choice.

Save yourself and your family from ingesting and inhaling hazardous chemicals-get a shower water filter to make your water safer. A chlorine shower filter will greatly reduce your family’s health risks! Make the logical choice today that could save your life!
