Mercedes E CLass The New Version

Mercedes mid-level E-Class is not only their best selling model, it’s also one of my favorite prestige cars. The E350 and E550 saloons have been redesigned for 2010, complete with new styling and a host of new electronic gadgets. All very impressive but I wanted to see if the E-Class was still the same.
At First Glance
I don’t like change. So I was not happy when Mercedes announced that the new E-Class was coming for 2010.
See, I don’t just like the E-Class - I love the E-Class. To me, the E Class was the medicine for rush hour traffic: A road going smooth piece of machinery that’s like sitting in your favorite armchair. Just getting into an E Class relaxes one of all the stresses of the day.
Like the old E, the new E’s cabin is a wood-trimmed lined with soft, high-quality plastics. Genuine leather comes standard on the E550. The transmission stick has moved to the steering column, freeing space for two cup holders, a big center armrest, and the dial controller that runs many of the car’s functions, including navigation, stereo and Blue tooth speakerphone.
The E provides plenty of room up front and quite a bit in the back, although rear legroom gets tight if the front seats are adjusted all the way back. Booth capacity is 15.9 cubic feet; you can expand that, but only if you pay extra for a split fold rear seat. Why Mercedes charges extra for this feature, when most cars have it for free, is beyond me.
The 2010 E has a host of new gadgets, including Attention Assist, somehow deduces from steering inputs if the driver is falling asleep and sounds an alarm. Options include a night vision camera that highlights pedestrians (costs extra) and a parking assist system that tells you when to turn the steering wheel (costs extra) Some cars have an optional drivers seat with active air bladders. The massage function is nice, but I’d probably save the extra cost and settle for the standard 14 way power seat.
On the Road
Drive the V6-powered E350 saloon, I can’t see anyone needing any more power than its 268 horsepower engine delivers. For those people who live outside of my imagination, the E550 offers a 382 hp 5.5 liter V8 a beautiful engine that delivers its power smoothly and gently, unless you floor the accelerator, in which case it propels you down the road at a rate of knots. The E550 also comes with air springs, which produce an impossible blend of sharp handling and a smooth ride.
Still the one
Having finished my test I conclude that the new E-Class may have new styling and lots of new gadgets, but it’s still the same smooth piece of machinery it always has been. And it’s still the standard by which I judge prestige saloons.
As is the case with most cars, the E-Class isn’t the best pick for everyone. While the lower prices are a nice surprise, the E class still isn’t cheap, especially once you start adding in options.

A Garage Floor Covering For Hideous Floors

If you are buying a house that needs remodeling, your garage floor may not be looking too great. And you may not have realized that having a concrete floor in your garage makes it prone to cracking, and any neglected cracks can make applying new paint or other coatings impossible. This problem can stem from other factors like the ground shifting, garage flooding, or other factors that damage concrete in ways that are inevitable. Despite this, there are times when a garage floor needs a covering, whether it is the result of a damaged foundation or just the surface that is unwanted.
Why Shouldn’t I Just Repair The Concrete?
There are certainly methods that you can use to repair your damaged concrete, and smallish cracks can be painted over, but this won’t stop the cracks from expanding, as they most certainly will. For the most part, whatever it was that caused the original damage will probably damage it again. Because of this, if the floor is damaged enough, it’s smarter to just forgo the garage floor paint and go straight to the coverings. By garage floor coverings, in this case, we mean mats or garage floor tiles. Just like any other garage floor coverings, the point is to cover any defects so that, while they’re still there, they’re not visible. Garage floor tiles are not ideal in situations where the concrete garage floor is stained, however. If you do use tiles in this case, the stains will end up “sweating”, and dissolving the sticky stuff that holds the tiles to the ground. When this happens, the tiles will lose their grip, and the floor won’t be in any better shape than it was before.
Garage Floor Mats Work All The Time
In some cases when the garage flooring is just really defiled, your only choice is to use garage floor mats. Fortunately, a mat is just as adept for resistance against chemicals as most anything, and it can be made to look great while doing it’s job. Unluckily though, it is like placing a “Band-Aid” onto your problem, and may even return to reek havoc. If your concrete is seriously breaking up in spots, it might dish out some jagged edges that will tear any garage floor covering, particularly when the covering has been driven upon. It is possible that the terrible state of the concrete can go unnoticed as it degrades even further, if covered up by a garage floor mat. However, if your garage floor mat does get damaged, it can be replaced with the smallest of problems. Of course, that is only if you are able to afford to buy another mat.
You May Not Have To Decide Your Garage Floor Covering
When it comes down to it, your choice of garage floors is pretty simple: if tiles will stick, then you can use either tiles or mats. If they won’t, for whatever reason, then you’re stuck with your choice of garage floor mats.

Are Electric Cars Really The Green Solution For Environment

In a shocking report the Environmental Transport Association (ETA) has stated that the electric cars are not the environmental panacea that they are often made out to be. While electric cars hold a lot of promise for a greener environment, it is unclear as to how the increased number of electric cars will impact the environment in long term.
If everyone started driving electric cars tomorrow, the amount of additional electricity required would increase rather than decrease pollution, the ETA claims.What this implies is that you will need more electricity to be generated and more raw materials will be needed to do so.
The ETA states that the electric cars do not automatically cut CO2 pollution, and the process of meeting increased demand of electricity to run electric cars is still undefined. This makes it very difficult to predict the impact of increased electricity generation for meeting electric cars’ needs and we need to study and analyze the problem in totality rather than treating it in isolation. Global vehicular pollution is a threat for the entire globe and it is significant that any alternative fuel has to address the problem of environmental hazard before being effectively used as a commercial alternative to the existing fossil fuels.
ETA Director Andrew Davies has tried to explain that the report is not intended to discount electric vehicles or dampen any enthusiasm for them. The introduction of electric vehicles should not be considered as a panacea against global vehicular pollution. Hence there is a need to do a concerted study on the source of power for electric cars.
While it is simple and easy to tout electric cars as the solution to day to day problems being faced in terms of increased vehicular pollution, we need to step aside and think of the following 3 questions: 1. Who produces electricity for electric cars? 2. What process or raw materials are used for creating electricity? 3. What is the impact of increased consumption of electricity on the green environment? It may be stupid to give a bling clearance to electric cars as being the only possible and commercially viable alternative to fossil fuels. At the same time, there is no need to discount the electric cars. They hold a significant promise and if we are able to think, and come up with strategy to optimize the overall requirements we will be able to do good for the environment and people.
For now, a hybrid car seems as a likely option to control pollution and help the green environment.
