Heart Worms

One very common ailment in canines is worm infestation. Worms are parasites that dwell inside of your dog and all cause different problems. These symptoms depend upon the kind of worm your dog has. Generally there are five major worm types: hookworms, whipworms, heartworms, roundworms and tapeworms. All of these can cause light to severe complication and must be treated. Take a look at the different kinds of parasites and what each worm does.

The most common type of infestation comes from the roundworm. This parasite is usually passed to puppies from their mothers either before birth or in her breast milk. This intestinal worm can be passed to humans. In dogs, the worm will cause weight loss and a potbellied appearance. Left untreated these worms multiply at an alarming rate. An adult female roundworm can lay up to 200,000 eggs per day for a year. This can cause an obstruction in the dogs’ intestinal tract and lead to death. It is recommended that you treat your animals with a regular schedule of de-wormer starting when they are weaned. There are commercial as well as natural treatment options available.

Hookworms are similar to roundworms as they are intestinal parasites. The hookworm is smaller and feeds on blood from the intestinal wall. Hookworm dog worms symptoms are anemia and even death. Some symptoms may not be visible in the stool or vomit. To determine if an infestation is present, you must take a stool specimen to your vet to be analyzed. The hookworm can be passed to humans but it does not cause the same problems as in dogs. In humans, the worm penetrates under the skin causing an itchy rash with a worm like appearance.

The tapeworm is so named due to its appearance. It is flat and long and looks like a piece of tape. The tapeworm is spread to dogs by the ingestion of an infected flea. For instance, the flea feeds off of an infected animal and picks up the tapeworm egg. Your dog eats the flea while grooming itself. dog worms symptoms of the tapeworm include nervousness, itching, particularly around the anus, weight loss, abdominal pain and vomiting. Get your dog to the vet if any of these symptoms appear.

Whipworms live in the dog’s colon and are not viewable by the naked eye. They feed off the dog’s intestinal wall and cause many ailments. dog worms symptoms of the whipworm include weight loss, diarrhea which contains mucous or blood, anemia and flatulence. The whipworm is the hardest to get rid of but there are both natural and pharmaceutical treatments available. Our dog, Lucy, not only had parvovirus but was also infected with whipworms. She was treated with an oral medication.

Finally, the most serious of dog worms is the heartworm. This worm is passed from one animal to another through the mosquito. The key to survival of heartworms is prevention. People who live in warm damp climates that are prone to heavy mosquito activity should especially be concerned, and take precautionary measures. Once infected there are few good treatment options, most include giving the animal limited doses of arsenic, the treatment alone can kill the dog. The infection is so serious because the heartworm takes up residence in the heart and arteries to the heart causing it to enlarge and eventually fail. Symptoms can include coughing, weight loss and a potbellied appearance much like other dog worms symptoms. No matter which type of parasite you think you may be dealing with get some help either veterinarian or natural but be pro active for better canine health.

Dog worms are an ever present problem for your dog. Dog worms symptoms depend upon the type of dog worms that are present in your dog. Heartworm is without doubt the most serious parasite, but all types of canine worms can make your dog sick. Discover how to prevent symptoms of dog worms by preventing the worms.

What You Should Know About Invisible Dog Fences

One of the easiest ways to train your dog to stay on your property is by using a certain device that can help control their behavior. One of the most effective devices available to do just that is known as a wireless dog fence. You may better know this device as an invisible dog fence or an electric dog fence.

These dog training tools work by using corrective measures to teach your bet to observe certain boundaries. While being trained by this tool your pet will begin to learn where they are and are not allowed to wander. This is a great way to keep your dog safe from any dangers and from getting lost.

Imagine how much fun and exercise your pet will get when there is no need for them to be tied up to a leash. Wireless dog fences allow your dog to roam freely around your property without having to worry about them running off and getting lost.

How much will you need to spend on a sophisticated train tool like this one? Wireless dog fences run anywhere from just under a hundred dollars to quite a few hundred. The difference in price depends on the quality. You may also need to buy a more expensive invisible fence if you have a larger property as those with a wider range are a bit more pricey.

Electric dog fences are made up of two specific pieces. The main piece is called the transmitter, this is the main part of the dog fence. The transmitter sends a signal to the second piece called the wireless dog collar. Multiple dog collars can be purchased if you have more than one dog. This way one transmitter can operate more than one collar.

The way this device works is very simple, the transmitter does exactly what you’d think it does, it transmits. As long as the dog collars stay within range of the transmission, all is well. If your pets attempt to wander off and leave the transmission range, they will receive a corrective shock. This sounds much worse than it really is. A corrective shock is more like a reminder that they have gone too far and should turn around.

You can have your invisible dog fence up and running in just a few minutes. Simply, turn on the transmitter and turn on the receivers and place them on your pets. There is no need to place the transmitter anywhere in particular as the signal, like radio waves, can not be distorted by walls or doors. It’s that simple.

Here is what can be expected by using a wireless dog fence. Your pets will learn their boundaries with little to no supervision. You will be able to let your dogs roam freely around your property without worrying about them running off or getting hurt. You may notice that your pets are more well behaved and more receptive to your commands.

There is one more interesting fact about these dog fences. After a while you will notice that your pets no longer go near the boarders of your property. At that point you may even be able to replace their wireless dog collars with a plain old collar. This means that the invisible dog fence did its job and your pets are fully trained. All of this done for a few hundred dollars and without any work from your what so ever.

You Could Be Hurting Your Animals’ Feelings!

Animal Communication can help pet owners in a number of ways. It will help you to understand and pick up vital information regarding your animals’ health and happiness. Having the ability to feel an animal form their perspective allows us to move from placing our own thoughts and judgements on our animals. Making animal communication a must have tool if you truly care for animals.

It is very easy for us humans to place negative feelings on to our animals. I am sure that you will agree with me that it is a horrible feeling when some one makes false judgements about us. So why is it any different when we do the same to our animals!

For example the other day I saw how a dog had been labelled as a bully with other dogs. This strong judgement had been made because the owner had observed that when her dog was around younger or gentle dogs, she would look very friendly but when she got close would snap at them and show aggressive signs.

Her behaviour was completely different to nervous or protective dogs where she would leave them well alone.

Using animal communication it became very clear that her dog was desperate to be sociable with other dogs. The reason for the aggression was that she was afraid of the intimacy. Now it became clear why she was approaching the younger and gentle dogs. She was also very sensitive to other dogs feelings and this is why she did not want anything to do with nervous or protective dogs.

This feeling of wanting to be close, changed as soon as her nose got to close to another dogs. Replaced with this feeling of intense shyness and protection.

With this new insight and information it allowed us to create a whole new approach in helping her dog. We focused on keeping her relaxed and very slowly closed the gap between her and other dogs, giving her the time to overcome her shyness. Because she was so desperate to be close to other dogs this made the process easy as everyone was after a common goal.

Understanding our animals from this feeling language gives us the power to really help them. If you are still in a place where you keep asking yourself why they are doing this or that. Then you have not found this connection and understanding that your animal is looking for!

Animal communication builds a trusting relationship. It is exactly the same for humans, when we find someone who understands us then it is easy to listen to them and trust them, as we can feel that they are there to help us. Because animal communication is so natural, it is very easy for anyone to learn the skills in a relatively short period of time!

5 Smart And Easy Tips For Keeping Your Pooch Safe

Your dog relies upon you to keep him safe both inside your home and outside. Most owners realize that they should keep their canines on a leash while they’re outside in order to prevent their roaming into the street. But, their responsibility extends much further. In this article, we’ll provide five tips that you can use to ensure the safety of your pooch.

#1 - Keep Dangerous Poisons Out Of Reach

Your canine’s appetite isn’t limited to the meals you provide him during the day. Given the opportunity, he’ll eat items that are not meant to be consumed (at least, not by him). For example, he may begin eating antifreeze if it is left within his reach. He might also start eating mouse bait, pesticides, and your own medications. Each of these items can lead to significant health issues. Keep them out of his reach.

#2 - Tag Him

You may think it could never happen, but many owners have learned that their dogs are always willing to explore if they’re given the chance. One of the reasons animal shelters in many cities are overflowing is because canines get loose and roam until they’re found. Put a collar and tag on your pooch. Also, consider microchipping him. Then, once a week, check to make sure his collar and tags are secure.

#3 - Keep His Head In The Car

It is a rare dog that doesn’t love to ride in a car with his head sticking out of the window. The problem is that it invites bugs and debris into his eyes. Plus, if you’re involved in a traffic collision, your pooch can be injured. If he’s going to ride in the car with you, keep the windows up enough to prevent him hanging his head outside.

#4 - Make Him Ride In The Cab

Owners will often place their dogs in the exposed bed of their trucks. This is incredibly dangerous for a few reasons. First, the stopping and starting can throw him off balance, often into the sides of the vehicle. Second, taking a sharp turn while your pooch is elevated on the side of the vehicle can throw him from the back into traffic. If you own a truck and you’re bringing him along, keep him in the cab.

#5 - Have A Veterinarian On File

The worst time to look for a veterinarian is when your dog desperately needs one. You should have the name and contact information of a trusted vet within reach. That includes his or her office phone and an emergency number. You should also have a back-up veterinarian that you can take your canine to in the event your primary vet is unavailable.

Your dog’s safety is at risk from accidents. Whether he’s getting into rat poison, becomes lost, or is riding in the back of your truck, you don’t expect him to get into trouble. It happens unexpectedly. Take the time to make sure he’s as safe as possible.

Dog Training Tips — REVEALED! — 8 Proven Powerful Dog Training Tips. See them Boost Pooch Popularity!

Spot LOVES to bark. He barks at EVERYONE. He never shuts his trap. He jumps all over me and my guests, continually. I now own a shredded sweater, and he just peed on the new National Geographic!

It’s a struggle to have a new dog when you’re faced with behavior issues. Despite this, fast corrections can be made when you use a powerful system to train your dog daily. HUGE improvements can be made in only 7 days.

Using good info and a tolerant attitude, tutoring your pooch can be lots of fun for both of you. Not to mention the benefits of you having a well behaved dog, AND your dog will love you even more than before. You’ll see how fast your dog is learning the new commands, which will make the lessons become fun, and something that you both are keen to take part in. Also, it’s important to keep your dog out of harms way in dicey situations, such as around traffic, and strangers, by knowing a few basic commands, such as Come, Sit, Stay, and Heel.

One person should be in charge of training your dog. This will make it easier for you and the dog because of familiarity, and the consistency of the training method. Everyone who lives with the dog should help to train the dog by following the methods of the primary trainer. When children help, they should be supervised, preferably by the primary trainer.

Sessions should be less than 15 minutes long, because of a dogs shorter attention span. Sessions can be 10-15 minutes long every day, or every other day. If you’ve had a bad day or don’t feel very patient, it’s probably best to skip a session, since you won’t be at your best.

For fastest results, blend the commands you’ve been working on into the dogs daily life. For example, if you’ve covered the Sit command, try using that throughout the day. Remember to reward your pooch every time he displays the correct behaviour.

When using food rewards, make sure that training stints are before mealtimes (the dogs) so that he’s hungry and inspired to act.

Begin training in a quiet environment with few distractions, making it easier for her to focus on learning the new command. If you remove distractions, you will be the most interesting item in the room to your dog. Try to choose a quiet room, where you and your dog are alone. After she has learned the command, start adding distractions, such as having other people in the room.

After she’s demonstrated proficiency with the new commands, reinforce them using your body in different positions, then in other rooms of your house, and finally in the park with a leash. Verbalize the new commands while she is on your left or right, and with you standing and sitting. She will soon realize that no matter where you both are, or what your body language is, you want her to do the same thing each time. It’s crucial to reward her every time that she’s successful with the command. Don’t react when she is unsuccessful.

You might be teaching a previously trained dog. That’s OK. Grown dogs will usually have longer attention spans than pups, allowing for faster learning. This helps to compensate for some incorrect training that might need to be unlearned.

For example, your dogs earlier training might have caused her to associate a particular word for a particular behaviour. Maybe your dog is having difficulty grasping the right behaviour for the word Come. You could try using the word Here, instead. Be sure to use the identical training procedure.

It’s normal to need to regress a step or two in the training regimen, when moving to a new location, being in a new situation, or using different body language. Your dog has many ways to be distracted, and he is learning to focus on your command, and remember what it means, and then perform it.

8 Dynamite Dog Training Tips:

* Only one person as the main teacher

* 15 minutes daily, or every other day

* Quiet area with few distractions to start teaching each new command, indoors is best

* Use food reward, but train before mealtimes (the dogs, not yours!)

* Mastery of command? Alter body language, use distractions, change environment

* Use learned commands during daily life for reinforcement

* Be willing to substitute command words when teaching an older or previously trained dog

* Be ready to back up a step or two in the training sequence when needed

Are You Keeping Your Dog Active Enough?

Dogs are still viewed as a man’s best friend, even though many of them would like to eat the remote control. It is because they have that characteristic of being dynamic, but they are at home with a television addicted couch potato. This mismatch can make for a strained human relationship - or a really sad dog.

If a dog is what you want to bring into your home, you must think about the activity level that the dog needs to be physically and emotionally healthy. Some lazy adults think that if they only had a dog that needed walking twice daily, then they would get the physical exercise they’ve so carefully avoided for so many years. Active dogs need active keepers, but if they have been matched with idle folks, a change of ways is badly needed - nonetheless, that can’t be easily done. Since idle keepers are more likely to slack off during walking sessions, the dog is not likely to get the essential benefits of having a frequent outside time thus the dog will be the one to suffer.

You should know that the quantity and kind of physical exercise that you give to your dog is not the same as giving him the quantity of physical activity that he needs everyday and both should be catered to. The time to walk, run, jump and unwind is what each and every dog needs for every single day. Walking on a lead to a park or just around your neighborhood is also one way of doing this. You don’t have to put your dog on a leash to let him enjoy the freedom of running and playing if you have a home with a fenced in yard. Mobility limitations can sometimes be a problem of some older adults and if this is the case, choosing a dog that calls for a lesser daily activity is the best thing to do. Active dogs may find individuals who are fond of going out-of-doors to have fun or relax after a day’s work to be ideal owners that are suitable for them. Meeting at the end of the day is what both the keeper and the dog gladly anticipates, when they can play pursuit in the park or go for a run together.

You should be conscious that the tendency to be more physically active goes with those dogs of larger sizes. Those dogs with the heritage of being working or hunting dogs can be sited as examples of these dogs. The desire of getting busy and working off their energy is just some of their built-in traits. Movement and agility are some of the inherent traits of dogs such as the German Shepherd, Greyhound, Doberman, Irish Setter and the Beagle, thus, it is natural for them to want some kind of exercise everyday. Having an exceedingly large dog who can easily outweigh his owner such as the St. Bernard and Bull Mastiff doesn’t mean that you have an active dog since size can actually fool you. Even though you see the St. Bernard in movies rescuing the lost skier, what you don’t know is that to sleep in front of the fireplace is the physical activity that usually takes up most of the dog’s time.

Small dogs like Poodles and Chihuahuas can live in small places and forgo the daily long walk in the park, even so, getting active around your house is not something that you can avoid from these dogs since they have those nervous temperaments. Some of the activities that they keep on doing may include the pointless running at all directions and jumping or bouncing on you or your guests, but once they’re already out of energy, all they do is simply behave. That’s the point where the little dogs crawl back on your lap or on their sumptuous pillow for a well-deserved nap to recharge.

There are a lot of things that you need to consider just before you decide on buying a dog. By taking time to make a profile of the dog that best fits your living space, character, and personal activity level, you’ll have a better match for a lasting relationship.
