Computer and network support technicians are ever more sought after in this country, as institutions rely heavily upon their knowledge and ability to fix and repair. Industry’s need for better skilled and qualified individuals is growing, as we become consistently more dependent upon PC’s in today’s environment.
Many individuals don’t comprehend what information technology is doing for all of us. It’s thrilling, changing, and means you’re a part of the huge progress of technology that will impact the whole world for generations to come.
We’re only just beginning to comprehend how all this change will affect us. How we interact with the world will be inordinately affected by computers and the web.
The money in IT isn’t to be sniffed at also - the typical remuneration throughout Britain for an average IT professional is considerably more than the national average. Chances are that you’ll earn a whole lot more than you’d expect to earn doing other work.
As the IT industry keeps growing nationally and internationally, the chances are that the requirement for well trained and qualified IT technicians will continue to boom for years to come.
Often, students don’t think to check on a vitally important element - the way their training provider actually breaks down and delivers the courseware elements, and into how many separate packages.
By and large, you’ll enrol on a course that takes between and 1 and 3 years and get posted one section at a time - from one exam to the next. While this may sound logical on one level, consider this:
Many students find that the company’s ’standard’ path of training isn’t the easiest way for them. They might find it’s more expedient to use an alternative order of study. Perhaps you don’t make it in the allotted time?
For maximum flexibility and safety, many trainees now want to request that all their modules (now paid for) are sent immediately, and not in a piecemeal fashion. It’s then your own choice in what order and how fast or slow you want to go.
Ensure all your certifications are what employers want - don’t even consider courses which end up with a useless in-house certificate or plaque.
If the accreditation doesn’t feature a company like Microsoft, Cisco, Adobe or CompTIA, then it’s likely it won’t be commercially viable - as it’ll be an unknown commodity.
A lot of training providers only give office hours or extended office hours support; It’s rare to find someone who offers late evening or full weekend cover.
Locate training schools with help available at any time of the day or night (even 1am on Sunday morning!) You’ll need direct access to tutors, and not access to a call-in service which takes messages - so you’re consistently being held in a queue for a call-back during office hours.
As long as you look hard, you will find the top providers that give students online support all the time - including evenings, nights and weekends.
You can’t afford to accept less than this. Online 24×7 support is the only kind that ever makes the grade for IT study. Maybe late-evening study is not your thing; usually though, we’re out at work when traditional support if offered.

IT Career Courses Around The UK Revealed
Posted by Jason Kendall | Filed under Reference & Education
CompTIA A+ consists of 4 training sections; you’re seen as A+ competent when you’ve gained exams for 2 out of 4 subjects. This is why most training providers only teach 2 specialised areas. In reality you will need the teaching in all areas as many positions will demand knowledge and skills of all four areas. Don’t feel pressured to complete all 4 certifications, however we’d advise that you take tutorials in all 4 subjects.
Once you start your A+ training program you’ll become familiar with how to build and repair PC’s and operate in antistatic conditions. You’ll also cover fault finding and diagnostics, through both hands-on and remote access.
If you would like to be a man or woman who works for a larger company - fixing and supporting networks, add Network+ to your CompTIA A+, or alternatively look at doing an MCSA or MCSE with Microsoft in order to have a better comprehension of the way networks operate.
Considering the amount of options that are available, is it any wonder that the majority of career changers don’t really understand the best career path they could be successful with.
How can we possibly grasp what is involved in a particular job when it’s an alien environment to us? We normally don’t even know anybody who is in that area at all.
Contemplation on these different areas is required when you need to expose the right solution that will work for you:
* Your hobbies and interests - these can show the possibilities will satisfy you.
* Is your focus to re-train due to a specific reason - for example, is it your goal to work based from home (working for yourself?)?
* What salary and timescale needs you have?
* Some students don’t fully understand the time demanded to gain all the necessary accreditation.
* You will need to appreciate the differences between the myriad of training options.
In these situations, it’s obvious that the only real way to investigate these areas tends to be through a good talk with an experienced advisor who has a background in IT (and specifically the commercial requirements.)
IT has become one of the most thrilling and changing industries that you can get into right now. Being up close and personal with technology puts you at the fore-front of developments that will affect us all over the next generation.
It’s a common misapprehension that the technological advancement we have experienced is cooling down. Nothing could be further from the truth. There are huge changes to come, and the internet significantly is going to dominate how we conduct our lives.
If making decent money is way up on your list of priorities, you will appreciate the fact that the income on average for the majority of IT staff is much better than with much of the rest of industry.
Due to the technological sector increasing year on year, it’s looking good that the requirement for professionally qualified and skilled IT workers will continue to boom for the significant future.
We can guess that you’ve always enjoyed practical work - the ‘hands-on’ personality type. If you’re like us, the world of book-reading and classrooms is something you’ll make yourself do if you have to, but you really wouldn’t enjoy it. You should use video and multimedia based materials if you’d really rather not use books.
Studies in learning psychology have shown that long term memory is improved when we involve as many senses as possible, and we put into practice what we’ve been studying.
Locate a program where you’ll receive a library of CD and DVD ROM’s - you’ll learn by watching video tutorials and demonstrations, with the facility to hone your abilities through virtual lab’s.
Always insist on a training material demonstration from any training college. You should ask for slide-shows, instructor-led videos and virtual practice lab’s for your new skills.
Often, companies will only use purely on-line training; while you can get away with this much of the time, consider how you’ll deal with it when you don’t have access to the internet or you get intermittent problems and speed issues. A safer solution is the provision of physical CD or DVD discs that removes the issue entirely.
Finding job security in the current climate is very rare. Businesses frequently remove us out of the workplace at the drop of a hat - as long as it fits their needs.
In actuality, security now only emerges through a swiftly escalating marketplace, pushed forward by a shortfall of trained staff. This shortage creates the appropriate setting for a secure market - definitely a more pleasing situation.
A recent British e-Skills investigation showed that twenty six percent of all available IT positions are unfilled because of a huge deficit of well-trained staff. That means for every four jobs available in IT, there are barely three qualified workers to perform that task.
Well trained and commercially grounded new employees are accordingly at a resounding premium, and in all likelihood it will stay that way for many years to come.
Unquestionably, now, more than ever, really is the very best time to join IT.

Training in Networking Support Considered
Posted by Jason Kendall | Filed under Reference & Education
These days, industry would struggle without assistance from support workers mending networks and computers, while making recommendations to users on a constant basis. Because we’re all becoming progressively reliant on technology, we additionally inevitably become more dependent on the skilled and qualified IT professionals, who keep the systems going.
An important area that is sometimes not even considered by those considering a training program is that of ‘training segmentation’. This is essentially the method used to break up the program for delivery to you, which completely controls how you end up.
Usually, you will purchase a course taking 1-3 years and receive a module at a time. It seems to make sense on one level, but consider these issues:
With thought, many trainees understand that their providers standard order of study doesn’t suit. It’s often the case that varying the order of study will be far more suitable. And what happens if they don’t finish within their exact timetable?
In an ideal situation, you want everything at the start - so you’ll have them all to return to any point - at any time you choose. This allows a variation in the order that you move through the program as and when something more intuitive seems right for you.
IT has become one of the most exciting and ground-breaking industries that you could be a part of. To be dealing with leading-edge technology puts you at the fore-front of developments that will impact the whole world for generations to come.
Computing technology and connections via the web is going to dramatically affect our lives in the near future; profoundly so.
And don’t forget that income in the IT sector across the UK is significantly higher than remuneration packages in other industries, so in general you’ll be in a good position to gain significantly more as a trained IT professional, than you could reasonably hope to achieve elsewhere.
Demand for professionally qualified and skilled IT workers is guaranteed for many years to come, thanks to the ongoing growth in the marketplace and the vast skills gap still present.
Can job security honestly exist anymore? Here in the UK, where business constantly changes its mind whenever it suits, there doesn’t seem much chance.
Where there are rising skills shortages coupled with growing demand of course, we almost always reveal a newly emerging type of security in the marketplace; driven by the conditions of constant growth, organisations are struggling to hire the influx of staff needed.
A rather worrying British e-Skills analysis brought to light that over 26 percent of computing and IT jobs cannot be filled because of a chronic shortage of trained staff. That means for each four job positions in existence in Information Technology (IT), we have only 3 certified professionals to do them.
This alarming idea highlights the urgent need for more appropriately qualified IT professionals across the UK.
Unquestionably, now really is such a perfect time to join the computer industry.
Every program under consideration has to build towards a widely recognised qualification at the end - not some little ‘in-house’ printed certificate to hang in your hallway.
Only nationally recognised examinations from the likes of Microsoft, Adobe, CompTIA and Cisco will have any meaning to employers.

Networking Cisco CCNA Training Considered
Posted by Jason Kendall | Filed under Reference & Education
A Cisco training course is intended for individuals who wish to understand and work with routers and network switches. Routers join up networks of computers via the internet or dedicated lines. We’d recommend that you should start with the CCNA. It’s not advisable to launch directly into the CCNP as it’s a considerable step up - and you need to work up to it before you take this on.
Routers are linked to networks, so look for a course which teaches the basics (CompTIA Network+ as an example - maybe with the A+ as well) before getting going with CCNA. It’s vital that you’ve got an understanding of the basics prior to starting your Cisco training or you’ll probably struggle. Once qualified and looking for work, you’ll benefit from having a good knowledge of networks alongside your CCNA.
You’ll need a tailored route that covers everything to ensure you have the correct skill set and knowledge prior to commencing your Cisco training.
One area often overlooked by new students considering a training program is the concept of ‘training segmentation’. Basically, this means the breakdown of the materials for timed release to you, which vastly changes where you end up.
Drop-shipping your training elements piece by piece, according to your own speed is the typical way that your program will arrive. Of course, this sounds sensible, but you should take these factors into account:
What if you don’t finish all the sections or exams? Maybe the prescribed order won’t suit you? Due to no fault of yours, you may go a little slower and therefore not end up with all the modules.
Ideally, you want everything at the start - meaning you’ll have all of them to return to any point - irrespective of any schedule. Variations can then be made to the order that you attack each section if you find another route more intuitive.
Kick out a salesman who recommends a training program without performing a ‘fact-find’ to assess your abilities plus your level of experience. Always check they have access to a wide-enough stable of training programs from which they could give you an appropriate solution.
Remember, if you’ve had any relevant previous certification, then you can sometimes expect to commence studying further along than someone who is new to the field.
If this is going to be your first attempt at an IT exam then you may want to practice with some basic Microsoft package and Windows skills first.
Often, individuals don’t catch on to what information technology means. It is stimulating, innovative, and means you’re doing your bit in the gigantic wave of technology affecting everyones lives in the 21st century.
Technological changes and interaction through the web will dramatically change our lives in the near future; to a vast degree.
If making decent money is high on your list of priorities, then you will appreciate the fact that the income on average of a typical IT worker is considerably higher than salaries in the rest of the economy.
Excitingly, there’s not a hint of a downturn for IT jobs expansion throughout this country. The sector is still growing rapidly, and as we have a significant shortage of skilled professionals, it’s most unlikely that it will even slow down for years to come.
The old fashioned style of teaching, involving piles of reference textbooks, is usually pretty hard going. If this describes you, look for learning programmes which feature interactive and multimedia modules.
Research into the way we learn shows that long term memory is improved when we use all our senses, and we get physically involved with the study process.
The latest audio-visual interactive programs with demonstrations and practice sessions will turn you off book-based study for ever more. And they’re far more fun.
Be sure to get a look at some courseware examples from the school that you’re considering. The package should contain expert-led demonstrations, slideshows and virtual practice lab’s for your new skills.
It is generally unwise to choose training that is only available online. Connection quality and reliability varies hugely across your average broadband company, you should always obtain CD or DVD ROM based materials.

The Advantages of Buying Fabrics from Local and Online Quilt Shops
Posted by Annie Soregue | Filed under 1
If you are looking for a certain fabric for a special project, you may either buy it locally or order it on the Internet. Local and online quilt shops offer various benefits to their customers. And it pays to know these benefits so that you can choose which shopping option suits your needs better.
In traditional quilt stores, you are free to touch the fabrics to feel their texture before buying them. Of course, this is not possible when you shop for fabrics on the Internet, as you are limited only to viewing the images of fabrics featured in the product catalogs of online quilt retailers.
Local quilt shops also have competent and experienced staff that can help you find the fabric you need or choose the right one for your project. The sales personnel of a local quilt shop in your area may even give you suggestions on the best fabric that provides value for your money. And if you frequent a certain store, the staff will already know you and your preferences.
Online quilt stores have become a more attractive option for consumers nowadays. These quilt retailers on the Web offer one thing that local shops cannot match: convenience.
Shopping for quilts online is the better choice if you are too busy to go to a local quilt shop or if no such store is available in your area. You only need to use your computer and Internet connection to search shops that offer the fabric you need. The best thing abut it is that you can do it without leaving your home.
Only a few mouse clicks will take you to the store that has the fabric you need in stock. It is very easy to place an order on an online quilt store. And once you have done so, you can expect your order to be delivered to you in no time.
Some online quilt shops offer affordable products to budget-conscious consumers, not to mention discounts and promos that provide great deals on purchases. But you must factor in the handling and shipping costs in computing the final cost of your order.
So which option is better? The right shopping option for you will depend on your needs.
We have a great selection of knitting wool. We are one of the best online yarn stores. We offer all your knitting and quilting needs at very good prices. We ship all over the world and shipping in Canada is free.

Texans Top Chiefs In Blustery NFL Preseason Game
Posted by Ross Everett | Filed under 1
It was the sort of sloppy NFL preseason game that made the coaches more interested in escaping with as few injuries as possible than with winning or evaluating talent. In a driving rainstorm at Arrowhead Stadium the Houston Texans outlasted the Kansas City Chiefs to take a 16-10 NFL exhibition victory. It was the first game of the NFL preseason for both teams, and they were more or less happy to emerge unscathed from the deluge.
Texans coach Gary Kubiak summed up the teams mindset in such awful weather conditions:
“It was a very sloppy night weather-wise and whoever plays the best defense and whoever doesn’t put it on the ground usually finds a way to win in this league. I was glad we did, but we paid a price. We have some guys banged up and that usually happens when you get out there in a mess like that.”
The biggest name to suffer an injury was Houston backup QB Rex Grossman. Kubiak gave an early assessment of his prognosis after the game:
“It looks like he has a pretty good hamstring. The first play when he went in he booted and said he felt his hamstring pull or pop, or whatever. So we’ll have to wait and see.”
Texans running back Ryan Moats had 52 yards on 10 carries, and was happy about just having some actual opposition:
“It felt good to finally hit somebody else for a change and not worry about hurting anybody else.”
Texans QB Matt Schaub was generally pleased with his performance under the circumstances:
“We ran the ball effectively down in the red zone and we were able to finish that drive 95 yards for a touchdown. That’s the way you want to finish off your day.”
Kansas Citys head coach Todd Haley made his NFL coaching debut, and spoke of the experience in his postgame comments:
“It’s your first game as head coach and I know it’s just preseason, but it was an exciting, exciting moment for me. If you tell me the first real one’s a win, I’ll take this loss any day of the week. It’s a special feeling when it’s your team and a lot of responsibility comes with that and I didn’t live up to my end of that. That’s the part that’s got to change.”
Houstons NFL preseason campaign continues on Saturday as they host the New Orleans Saints. Kansas City will play against the Vikings at Minnesota on Friday night. Houston will start the NFL regular season at home against the New York Jets on Sunday, September 13th while Kansas City will play the Ravens at Baltimore.

Oakland Opens NFL Preseason With Rout Of Dallas
Posted by Ross Everett | Filed under 1
The Dallas Cowboys received a solid effort from QB Tony Romo in his first action of the NFL preseason, but ultimately went down in defeat to the host Oakland Raiders by a 31-10 final score. Romo went three and out in his first series, but orchestrated a nice drive on his second go-round culminating in an eight yard touchdown pass to Jason Witten.
Romo did receive some criticism for hooking up with his longtime favorite target Witten rather than involve the rest of the offense. There’s been a lot of concern about the need to develop more long yardage passing threats after the departure of Terrell Owens. After the game, he brushed aside this talk:
“I don’t think it means anything. If one guy caught six straight balls and then we scored, that’s fine, too. It’s just about whatever the defense allows us on that specific play.”
Receiver Roy Williams caught one pass on the evening, and gave his vote of confidence on the Cowboys offense:
“If we execute like that, any team is going to have trouble. But we’re going to have our adversity and have our hard times where we can’t get open or the quarterback gets sacked or a bad throw. But tonight it all fell into place.”
Raiders QB JaMarcus Russell didnt do much in only two series of action, but Oakland coach Bruce Cable still gave him props for a good effort:
“I thought he was very aggressive with the ball, made good decisions. That’s what I’m talking about with him. When he plays the game at a fast enough speed, it allows him to be on time and he showed that tonight.”
The story of the rest of the game was the mistake filled play of the Cowboys reserves and the opportunistic effort of the Raiders second stringers led by backup QB Charlie Frye who played much of the second half. Cowboys coach Wade Phillips chalked the loss up to a learning experience:
“Our second group and our young guys, they made a lot of mistakes. You could see them out there. Those things shouldn’t happen but they did. Our guys will learn from those things.”
The Cowboys will continue their NFL preseason play hosting the Tennessee Titans on Friday night. Oakland, meanwhile travel across the bay to play their local rivals the San Francisco 49ers on Saturday. Dallas begins the NFL regular season on Sunday, September 13th at Tampa Bay. Oakland will start their 2009 NFL campaign at home against the San Diego Chargers on Monday, September 14th.

Cincinnati QB Palmer Returns In Preseason Loss To New Orleans
Posted by Ross Everett | Filed under 1
Despite losing to the New Orleans Saints in their NFL preseason opener 17-7, the Cincinnati Bengals had a lot to be happy about. Most significantly, they were elated over the return of QB Carson Palmer after he’d missed most of the last NFL season. His solid performance gave them even more to be happy about despite being on the wrong end of the final score. When you live in Cincinnati, however, you’re used to having to take what you get so Palmer’s serviceable performance led to mass celebration in the streets of ‘The Queen City’.
New Orleans had their share of offensive highlights, with QB Drew Brees hooking up with tight end Jeremy Shockey for three completions including Shockey’s first touchdown reception in a Saints uniform. It was a harbinger of things to come, as Shockey would later catch a touchdown pass in the Saints’ remarkable Superbowl victory over the heavily favored Indianapolis Colts. Many suggest that Bayou ‘root doctors’ have more to do with the win than the team’s actual play.
Saints fans were well aware that their QB would produce after hanging over 5,000 yards on the board last year, but Palmers return from injury brought a sigh of relief from Bengal backers. Palmer missed most of last season because of a partially torn ligament and tendon in his passing elbow. His passing highlight was a 55 yard play to Chad Ochocinco.
After Shockeys TD catch boosted the Saints to a 7-0 lead, the Bengals tied the game when Palmers backup J.T. O’Sullivan hit Chris Henry on a 14 yard touchdown pass. OSullivan also produced solid numbers, completing 9 of 11 passes for 100 yards.
The Bengals will continue their NFL preseason this Thursday as they travel to Foxboro, Massachusetts for a game against the New England Patriots. The Saints will also play away from home, heading over to Houston for a game against the Texans on Saturday. Both teams will kick off the NFL regular season on Sunday, September 13th with the Bengals hosting the Denver Broncos and the Saints welcoming the Detroit Lions to New Orleans.

Detroit Lions Name Rookie Stafford Starting QB
Posted by Ross Everett | Filed under 1
Matthew Stafford has yet to play a regular season NFL game and hes already the Detroit Lions starting quarterback. First year coach Jim Schwartz named Stafford as his starter for as the NFL regular season gets underway. Stafford beat out veteran Daunte Culpepper for the spot, though Schwartz went out of his way to stress that the rookie won the job as opposed to Culpepper losing it.
Schwartz made clear that hes very confident with his personnel at the position including third stringer Drew Stanton:
“I’ve had a lot of very tough decisions in the last few days — guys making the 53-man roster or not making it — but none more difficult than at quarterback. We announced to our team this morning that Matt Stafford is going to be our starting quarterback.”
“I’m very, very comfortable with the quarterback position here, not just one and two, but also three. What made this decision difficult was that I think we can win with Daunte Culpepper, I think we can with Matt Stafford, and I think we can win with Drew Stanton.
Stafford indicated that while hes always been confident that hed be named the teams starter he didnt know for sure until Schwartz gave him the word:
“I definitely thought I was going to be the guy, but as competitive as Daunte is, I’m sure he thought he was going to be the guy, too. Coach Schwartz called me in this morning and told me, and I went out and practiced with the first team. That was exciting.”
Despite the Lions dismal 0-16 record a year ago, Stafford stressed that he wants to win:
“I’m going to try to win football games. I think, just like everyone else on this team, that we can go out on Sunday and be competitive against the Saints and give ourselves a chance to win the game. That’s our job.”
Schwartz said that he plans to give his quarterback the opportunity to work through rookie mistakes:
“This isn’t an internship. This isn’t a trial basis. He’s our starting quarterback. We said that, to win the job, he had to be ready, and he had to be our best quarterback, and that’s what he has shown.”
He went on to praise Culpepper:
“Daunte Culpepper is back — there’s no doubt in my mind and there’s no doubt around this league. He’s going to be back as a starting quarterback in this league, and with a high level of success.”
Culpepper didnt speak to the media, but that wasnt a surprise since he never speaks to the media. Stafford, meanwhile, had some kind words for his backup:
“I’m sure it is tough for him, but Daunte’s been great for me and he will continue to be. I can’t think of a better guy to learn from and to have in my corner.”
The Lions will look for their first regular season win in over a year as they start the NFL regular season at New Orleans on Sunday. Theyll play the following two games at home, hosting the Minnesota Vikings in week #2 and the Washington Redskins on Sunday, September 27.

Crimson Tide Fends Off Feisty Vols
Posted by Ross Everett | Filed under 1
Alabama didn’t so much win their game against Tennessee on Saturday as much as they escaped. Despite playing one of their worst games of the year they managed to keep their undefeated season alive as nose tackle Terrance Cody blocked a potential game winning field goal on the last play of the game to preserve a 12-10 victory for the Crimson Tide. Alabama held a tenuous 12-3 lead late in the game before a Tennessee touchdown and recovered onside kick had them facing the specter of the defeat for the first time this season.
College football pointspread players who took Tennessee as +14 road underdogs were in good shape throughout the contest and eventually cashed their tickets. The Vols improved to 4-3 against the spread while the Crimson Tide dropped to 5-3 versus the number. The 22 combined points went well UNDER the posted total of 41′. Tennessee has gone UNDER in 4 of 7 while ‘bama evened their college football totals record at 4-4.
After the game, Cody recounted his blocked field goal attempt:
“I didn’t really get off the ground. I just reached my arm up. That’s how I got it. I knocked the blocker back. He was on his back.”
First year Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin wasn’t about to call the near miss loss a ‘moral victory’:
“It’s a difficult loss to deal with. You come into a hostile environment and play the No. 1 team in the country, as I said before by far the No. 1 team in the country and the best-coached team around. You come in here and outgain them by nearly 100 yards and miss three field goals. I don’t believe in moral victories, we should have won that game.”
He explained the difficulty that placekicker Daniel Lincoln has getting elevation on his kicks since a quadriceps injury:
“He can’t kick the ball up high. If you kick the ball up high it’s never going to get there, so we can’t allow the penetration up front.”
Alabama coach Nick Saban views the game as a learning experience:
“You talk about how fragile a season is. You’re controlling a game, even though you may say it’s winning ugly. We’re still ahead 12-3 and totally controlling the game with 3 minutes, 29 seconds and the ball. That’s how fragile a season can be. You make one mistake and you have to go overcome it. I hope that there’s a lot of lessons our team can learn from this.”
Alabama has a week off before a tough game at home against LSU on November 7. They’ll play at Mississippi State the following week. Tennessee hosts South Carolina next Saturday and Memphis the following week. They’ll play at Ole Miss on November–.
