You cannot talk about different casserole dishes and fail to talk about lasagna. It’s a dish adored by any chef for a variety of reasons. The main ones are; it is easy to prepare especially for people with enough culinary experience, and two, there are so many ways to make the dish, if you have the imagination to come up with new ingredients. Most people tend to believe that lasagna came from Italy- a guided belief if you explore the meaning of lasagna as a word. But that could be Greek as a well.
All in all, despite the history, the agreeable fact right now is that lasagna is one of those dishes you would want to make when it comes to testing how good you are in the kitchen.
There are some ingredients that lasagna cannot do without- like the sauce, cheese and pasta. But there are others that are interchangeable- like minced meat for meat balls, or bchamel sauce instead of tomato. It all breaks down to how creative you are, as far as combining the ingredients is concerned.
Your creative genius is given a chance to express themselves, especially with the making of lasagna. It’s hard to find a cookbook that sticks to one recipe, simply because new ones are being conceived almost everyday. If you have read a couple, you won’t fail to notice that meat is one of the preferred ingredients. But if you are vegan and animal protein is not for you, then you could try out the spinach, zucchini recipes that are available as well.
There’s one thing you have to always do with lasagna- follow the recipe. It’s the unquoted verse that is most important. Since there are many lasagna recipes available right now, mixing them up could be disastrous. If you find a recipe you would like to try out, first rule is- get all the ingredients. Unless your culinary skills are beyond reproach, then save experimenting for when you are better versed with the art of lasagna making.
The final step in making lasagna is usually baking it. Make sure you preheat your oven is ready for the job by preheating to about 375F. Then with the baking, time it right. Between 25-40 minutes should suffice depending on the recipe you are following.
As with all casseroles, making a masterpiece with your first shot is second to a miracle. Lasagna is not what you would call a sophisticated dish to make, but it does require multiple attempts before your dish is termed finger-licking good.

Meat Lasagna For A Great Meal Tonight
Posted by Mike Jones | Filed under Food & Beverage
What’s on the menu for your dinners this week? A great chose would be the meat lasagna. This mouth watering dish along with a salad and some fresh bread, is sure to please the whole family.
What you get with a meat lasagna, is a marvelous mixture of a sauce with Italian spices, cottage or even ricotta cheese, mozzarella cheese and ground beef.Just layer all these ingredients in a pan and cook it until the pasta is tender and the cheese is bubbly and melted.
Unlike other pasta dishes, lasagna can be made using uncooked pasta. The wide lasagna noodles can simply be layered in the pan with all the wet ingredients. Baking may take a little longer, but you will never know that they were not cooked beforehand.
Another great way to do lasagna, is with Alfredo sauce and chicken. A lovely addition to the chicken and Alfredo, is vegetables in the layers of the pan.
If you prefer the lasagna without meat choose red or white sauce and substitute vegetables such as zucchini, spinach or even carrots. The veggies give the lasagna a great taste and are much lower in fat than meats are.
If you are really in the mood for lasagna but are trying to behave your self by watching those carbohydrates, there is an alternative. Just try your family recipe using steamed cabbage leaves as a substitute for lasagna noodles. It’s flavor is very similar to the traditional recipe and it could just trick those taste buds.
To bake the lasagna, you need a casserole dish that is at least three to four inches deep. Because of the noodle’s shape, rectangular and square pans work better.
A great thing to do if you do not have a deep dish casserole dish, is to find a deep dish disposable aluminum pan. You can get them at most grocery stores and there great for if you want to freeze a few lasagnas for a few weeks in advance. Well, let’s be honest it’s also easier to clean up.
On days when someone asks me What Can I Cook With The Ingredients I Have, I tell them Meat Lasagna! Quick to make with items that I have in my pantry all the time!

Meat Lasagna - Cooking Tips
Posted by Mike Smith | Filed under Food & Beverage
Making a lasagna can be a tough and intimidating task, but with the right lasagna cooking tips, you can make it delicious. I’ve made terrible lasagnas in the past, but nowadays, I can make a pretty good lasagna with just a couple tips.
For the meat sauce, I combine a couple types of meat. I like to use 3 meats: beef, pork and turkey for the best flavor. I prefer using dried noodles and I make sure to add a lot of the sauce around the noodles. This will allow the noodles to soften up while baking and the lasagna will not be runny because I did not boil the noodles before adding them to the lasagna.
With the Parmesan cheese, I prefer the freshly grated type, for obvious reasons…taste. As with any recipe, the better the ingredients the better the dish, but this is a dish you can cheat a little. Again, with mozzarella cheese, you have to find the best and the freshest type of mozzarella.
This tip makes the most sense: Do not add liquid to your pasta sauce. If you do, the sauce will be really liquidy. Also, make sure all of your vegetables are dried out. You can take measures to dry them out before you add them to the lasagna.
Cover your lasagna with aluminum foil while it bakes to avoid burning the top of the lasagna. You can remove the aluminum foil during the last 20 minutes of baking. This will allow the top of the lasagna to cook nicely and brown without burning.
You have to lubricate the bottom of your baking dish or the lasagna will stick to it. Be sure to spray your baking dish AND put a little sauce on the bottom so the noodles won’t stick or get tough.
Drain meat VERY well to keep lasagna from being runny.
Eggs are very important to a lasagna. You can use eggs for binder. Use three eggs with meat, spaghetti sauce, cream cheese, cottage or ricotta cheese, mozzarella, and noodles.
There are hundreds of lasagna tips on the internet, but these are the most important lasagna tips, I believe. I tried to only include the best and most effective tips for your lasagna. You can also make vegetarian lasagna, but I absolutely love Meat Lasagna and that’s all I usually make. Good luck with your lasagna!
