Pod Hotels Can Save You Money When On Vacations Or Holidays
Posted by Dorothy Yamich | Filed under Travel
Whenever you book air flights and travel through airports on vacations or holidays, look around. You may just see pod hotels. Here is the low-down on these unique airport and city accommodations.
Pod hotels are not a new concept. These type of hotels have been around for a number of years, but most travelers have never even heard of them. They had their beginnings in Japan as “capsule hotels”, that were, and are still being used mainly by business people on stopovers. Today pod hotels are becoming very popular with vacation travelers as well, because they are convenient and are cheaper than regular hotels. They are located in the U.S., Britain, Europe, and Asia, usually in, or near airports.
The pod hotel concept is in its infancy in the U.S. and Europe, but it is growing by leaps and bounds as more and more holiday travelers demand this unique service. A number of entrepreneurs are building small, pod-like hotel rooms that are usually rented by the hour, or number of hours.
Most pod hotel rooms are small, but comfortable and convenient, and they can have all the amenities of a regular hotel room at a fraction of the cost. They can be a good choice for budget-conscious business travelers and vacationers.
Some pod hotels are situated in airports such as the ones at Yotel.com, located in London, England’s Heathrow and Gatwick Airports.
EasyHotels.com have pod hotels located in Zurich, London, Basal, and Budapest. QBICHotels.com have pod hotels in the cities of Amsterdam and Antwerp. A New York pod hotel is called the PickwickArms.com.
There is a new evolution in pod hotels called Metronap Sleep Pods. These space age style pods are starting to spring up not only on airport concourses, but in prominent locations in office buildings. They are excellent for tourists and business travelers, as well as tired people and executives that just want to have a nap. Even though these sleep pods sit out in the open, they partially enclose for privacy, but will not feel claustrophobic. They also are equipped with noise canceling headphones. The rental is by the hour and is reasonably priced.

Encinitas California Is Surfing And Beaches
Posted by Terry Hunefeld | Filed under Travel
Encinitas California is blessed with 6 miles of gorgeous beaches, eleven of them! Whether its surfing, swimming, scuba diving, boogie-boarding, sunning, reading a book, jogging, volley-balling or just basking in the serenity of a secluded beach, Encinitas is a great place to be 12 months a year.
If you’re into fitness, you’ll get a great workout at Stone Steps Beach. The author ran these stairs 5 times every morning when visiting and was in the best shape of his life. These awesome leg-building stairs lead down from the bluffs to the ocean offer fantastic views to enjoy while you work out. At high tide the ocean laps the bottom of the stairs, at low tide, the beach is up to 300 feet wide with lots of room for volleyball.
Swami’s Surf Beach, made famous in California’s own Beach Boys Surfin USA, is only six blocks south of Moonlight Beach, either walking the beach or driving down old Highway 101. Swami’s draws the finest surfers in the world every day. You can often see people scuba diving and snorkeling just offshore from Swamis at the Encinitas Marine Life Refuge, an underwater preserve.
Moonlight Beach is only a three minute walk from the my favorite place to stay when I visit: the Inn at Moonlight Beach. Stone Steps Beach, Beacon’s and Grandview beaches are not far from the Inn, all within walking distance or a brief drive up Neptune Avenue.
You can learn to surf by taking a surfing class at Beacons Beach from the world-famous surfer named Kahuna Bob, a famous surf icon in Encinitas. His classes are great fun - just google Kahuna Bob Encinitas and you will be surfing in no time.
Moonlight Beach is often called the beach with everything because it has lifeguard towers, a children’s playground, big parking lots, play areas, fire-rings, showers, restrooms, beach rentals, a great little snack bar and a beautiful wide sandy beach with lots of volleyball courts.
San Diego and Encinitas have many great accommodations. Here are some informative websites with useful lodging information: Bed and Breakfasts in Carlsbad CA and Hotels in Del Mar California.
Terry Hunefeld moved to Encinitas in 1998. After taking early retirement as President/CEO of a national training company in San Diego, Terry now pursues his life’s passion of sailing the Pacific Ocean observing seabirds and marine mammals. Del Mar - Where The Beautiful People Are
Posted by Terry Hunefeld | Filed under Travel
Imagine a romantic vacation getaway to a quiet, relaxing and scenic village on the beautiful Pacific Ocean. This getaway has charming hotels and Inns, phenomenal restaurants and miles of gorgeous beaches. It’s just those elements that make up the gem that is called Del Mar, California.
Del Mar is Spanish for “of the sea” because it is located right on the shores of the Pacific Ocean. It’s lauded by travel critics as one of the most beautiful and delicious resort beach towns in the world. Here you will find delightful lagoons, five-star restaurants, romantic bed and breakfast inns, scenic jogging trails, myriad vacation options, sandy beaches and a one-of-a-kind horse racing track
Del Mar has been home to celebrities ever since the 1940’s: Bing Crosby and his friend Jimmy Durante worked together to help turn the Del Mar Race Track into the most beautiful and prestigious race tracks in the horse racing world. One could often find Lucille Ball and Desi Arnez at the track. Other celebrities wanted to be closer, so Burt Bacharach and Angie Dickenson purchased residences in Del Mar. Brad Pitt recently purchased a beachfront home in Del Mar for (eighteen million dollars!) - and now Brad Pitt sightings have become the new sport in town.
Del Mar is a tiny community consisting of only two square miles along the Pacific Ocean in Northern San Diego County. Solana Beach is it’s neighbor on the north, while Torrey Pines State Reserve and La Jolla border on the south. The population of Del Mar is somewhere between 4000 and 5000 residents (depending on who does the counting). “Del-Marians” live among beautiful sandstone canyons or on bluff tops overlooking the ocean - and they all enjoy gorgeous sunsets.
Del Mar is home to the endangered Torrey Pine, the rarest species of pine tree in the United States. Only two populations of this endangered species exist - one in Torrey Pines State Reserve the other in Del Mar proper.
The San Diego County Fair is hosted on the Del Mar Fairgrounds every summer, opening on a 184 acre site in the San Dieguito Valley in 1936. It was determined to be the perfect spot because it was just off the main highways and would be easily accessible - while being near the ocean’s cooling factor on hot summer days. Selection of a queen - the Fairest of the Fair - is a highlight of this annual event.
Singer Bing Crosby took the front role to help bring the now-world-famous Del Mar Race Track into reality. In 1937 the Del Mar Race Track opened to newspapers calling it “Bing’s Baby”. Bing later recorded a song that would eventually open and close every day of racing at Del Mar - Where The Turf Meets the Surf.
Terry Hunefeld gave up his position as a corporate CEO in 2007 to spend more time at sea. He now volunteers his time on the board of directors of the Audubon Society and serves as a leader on charter voyages to sea to observe and census seabirds and marine mammals.
