How to Write an Informative Restaurant Review
Posted by Adriana Noton | Filed under Writing & Speaking
Writing a restaurant review is a fun way to share your thoughts and impressions about your dining experience. To write an informative review, you need to have knowledge about what key points you should include in your review. Not only is properly describing the food important, but you must have an understanding about the details of the restaurant. Once you have knowledge of the essential points to include, you then can present a well structured and organized restaurant review.
The following are a number of helpful tips to help you write a restaurant review:
1. Before you write a restaurant review, it is important to know how to structure the review. Make sure you are very descriptive and detailed. It is a personal review so emphasize your own writing style. Write complete sentences and use plenty of descriptive words and phrases. Write it in chronological order that includes from the moment you enter the restaurant to when you pay the bill and leave. Describe the restaurant in the present tense and in the second person. Using your own personality will help make the review unique.
2. Pick a restaurant you want to review. For example, you might choose Restaurants in Montreal. Or it might not even be a restaurant - it could be a cafe shop in Montreal. You want to make sure that there will be food that you like. When you enter the dining establishment, note such details as the interior appearance that includes the arrangement of tables, furnishings, decorations, colors, lighting, and the cleanliness of the restaurant. Make sure you check out the condition of the bathrooms. As well, make a note of the friendliest of the staff, how long you have to wait to be seated and its location, and if the hostess asks if you would like a beverage. When you are seated, make a note of the atmosphere of the restaurant. Is it friendly, extremely busy and loud, or relaxing?
3. Once you receive a menu, note the variety of meal choices, prices, any unique dishes, and if there are any healthy meal options. You should have an appetizer, entre, and dessert to get the full dining experience. When you receive the meal, note if the food is cooked properly. Does it have a distinctive taste such as spicy or sweet? What is the portion size? When you make your meal selection, make sure it something you normally enjoy eating, As well, note how you are treated by the servers. Are they friendly, well dressed, courteous, knowledgeable about the food and specials, and attentive? Make a note of the meal’s presentation, taste, smell, and if it is hot or cold. Make sure that you use descriptive and creative words. Suggest who may enjoy the food such as families or people who enjoy fine dining dishes. As well, note how long it takes to receive your bill.
When making your recommendation, make sure you have made a note of anything you disliked about the restaurant and the total cost of the meal and if you received good value for your money. When ending the review, make a statement about whether or not you would return. Writing a restaurant is more than just reviewing the food. By understanding the key elements that should be included in the review, you will have a fun restaurant review experience and hopefully provide valuable consumer information.

Make Your Business Trip More Fun With Food
Posted by Dorthy Weatherbush | Filed under Travel
Recently my wife and I opened a business and found that our travel itinerary increased dramatically. Now, like any one, I love traveling but it does begin to wear on you the more you find yourself away from home. With that said, there is one benefit to traveling that we find most enjoyable. Yes, flying first-class is a great perk and renting a convertible in sunny California is nice however my favorite traveling experiences is tasting all of the wonderful cuisine that each city we travel to has to offer. Think about the city in which you currently live. Don’t you have your list of the best restaurants that you love to frequent? In fact, many of these places are probably not what many would call five star restaurants rather they are probably a lot of diners, drive-ins and dives that would make the top of your list.
With that in mind, I have put together a list of tips to help you on your next trip so that it is much more fun, enjoyable, and unforgettable.
Begin to keep a food diary When traveling to a place you’ve never been to before, every time you eat out, whether its room service or take out, grab a copy of the menu and note the name, address, phone number and what you had to eat. If the experience was good make a note and if it was bad, make a large note. This is helpful because if you have to travel there again, you don’t have to try to remember the name of the place, where it was and more importantly, what you had to eat.
Take a picture with the chef Taking a picture with the chef can be an interesting thing to do when visiting another city. It gives you the chance to meet the person who is responsible for your tasty dish and offers the chance to meet someone knew. The pictures you will have for a lifetime and will be a good conversation starter when your return home.
Ask a local If you really want to find out what’s good to eat, ask a local. They will be able to tell you better than anyone what’s good and what ain’t. They can truly make the difference between a boring food experience and an exciting one.
Order Dessert To Go Instead of treating yourself to dessert, try treating some unsuspecting restaurant patron to dessert. Tell the waitress that you are going to pay for a particular person’s dessert, whatever they want. Tell her that you’d like to remain anonymous. Now see how good it feels to do something for somebody else without any recognition.
Traveling can be fun or it can be painful; but with these few tips, you have learned how to make the most of your trips whether they are for business or for pleasure! Bon Appetit!

Italian Cheeses - A Few Favorites
Posted by Frank Zaftra | Filed under Food & Beverage
There are over 400 different types of Italian cheeses. The Italian cheeses will have a specific designation that is listed under the protected designation of origin. This states that the cheeses form specific areas were all made in a specific way that is traditional to that region. If the cheese is not made in the correct way then it cannot carry the designation of origin.
Asiago is one of the better known cheeses from Italy and is used in many different types of cooking. Asiago is found in Panini, past, salads, sauces and soups. The texture of Asiago will vary depending on how long it has been aged for. Long aging periods create crumbly texture and short tagging periods create smoother textures. A true Asiago cheese is made in the town of Asiago.
A soft mild cheese that is quite well known is Bel Paese. This cheese was specifically designed to be a more delicate style of cheese. It is made in many parts of the world but was first produced just outside or Milan. It has a very short aging time of up to 2 months and is made primarily from cow’s milk. The name Bel Paese means Beautiful country and is taken from the name of a famous Stoppani book of the same name.
A fun bite sized cheese is Bocconcino. This cheese comes in small balls that are made of unripened cheese. This unripened cheese does not have a rind and is typically made of buffalo milk. Today some bocconcino is also made of cow’s milk. In order to keep the cheeses texture, which is spongy, bocconcino is packaged in water or whey.
Burrata is a type of cheese made form cream and mozzarella. The outside of the cheese is only made of mozzarella and the inside is softer and is made of cream and mozzarella. Burrata was first produced in the early’00s in a small spot of the Apulia region. It has since become and artisanal cheese. It is best serves when sliced open so the softer center can flow out. It should be eaten in 24 hours otherwise the flavors will diminish.
A cheese from Sicily that carries a protected designation of origin is Caciocavallo. This is a cheese made of sheep and cow milk and has a flavor very similar to provolone. This cheese is traditionally shaped in a tear drop form and the name actually translates to cheese on horseback. This name may be due to the fact that the very first of its kind was made using mare’s milk.
Casciotta d’Urbino is made in central Italy and mainly consists of sheep’s milk with a bit of cow’s milk. This cheese is very old as it was a favorite of Pope Clement XIV and Michelangelo. This is a type of Caciotta cheese. The flavor is mild and the body is yellow or white normally with a yellow rind.
A cheese that is typically used in fondues of veloutees is castelmagno. This cheese is half fat and classified as semi hard. You use whole cow’s milk and the cow must eat fresh hay from a pasture. Castelmagno goes particularly well when paired with honey or fortified wines.

Who Serves the Best Coffee?
Posted by Michael Rubin | Filed under Food & Beverage
Coffee remains one of the most popular beverages in the country. It’s a regular part of the day for millions of people, and it’s the first thing some people look for right after they wake up. An ample stimulant, it gets people going when they need it most.
With so many styles and flavors of coffee, the options are virtually limitless. Many people have their preferred brands, but the most popular two are undoubtedly Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts. With tens of thousands of locations throughout the country, these two brands are the Coke and Pepsi of the coffee world.
As far as public opinion goes, it’s pretty well split between the two coffee makers. Some swear by Dunkin Donuts and others say that Starbucks is clearly superior. Here are some of the facts about the two coffee giants.
First, let’s look at Starbucks. The coffee giant has exploded during the last 15 years, and they’ve even expanded to various drinks and foods beyond coffee. You can now get pastries, breakfast, and sandwiches at Starbucks.
While people generally approve of the food, in no way does it compare to the coffee. Though they definitely enjoy the taste of the coffee, many people love the caffeine that one cup packs in. Starbucks offers up some of the strongest coffee out there.
There may be less caffeine in Dunkin Donuts drinks, but many coffee drinkers have no problem with this. They don’t feel that they need the caffeine kick that comes with a Starbucks coffee. They also appreciate the generous servings at Dunkin Donuts. For the same price, you can generally get a few more ounces to drink.
Anyone who prefers a bigger drink would like this more. They also have more flavors available, with interesting ones springing up all the time.
So, who wins the coffee war between Dunkin and Starbucks? It seems that Dunkin Donuts wins in blind taste tests according to some studies, but it really all comes down to a matter of personal preference in the end.

The Responsibilities Of A Professional Bartender
Posted by Barbara Thomas | Filed under Food & Beverage
The definition of a professional bartender is someone who is behind a licensed bar serving beverages to customers. Bartenders can be found in many places, some examples of where you might find a bartender at are taverns or pubs, clubs, private parties, restaurants, basically anywhere that there is a bar and alcohol.
The majority of the drinks that a bartender will be serving contain alcohol in them. They also serve beer and wine, along with other types of alcohol. Not only do they serve alcohol they also have to serve juice, soda, water, and non alcoholic beverages to those who do not drink alcohol.
As well as make and serve drinks, the bartender is also responsible for taking payment for drinks, in some cases (either from customers, waiters or waitresses), keeping the liquor supplies and glassware stocked, keeping the bar area clean, maintaining enough ice and garnishes on hand and serving food to customers sitting at the bar, if the bar offers food for sale.
Almost anywhere you go the bartender will be expected to dress appropriate, this makes the whole atmosphere of the bar better. There are even some places where the bartender will be expected to be the main entertainment of the bar.
A professional bartender should have in their head hundreds of recipes for drinks and shots. The quicker that you can serve the customer the more likely you are to get a good tip. It is not very professional to go over and look at a recipe book while the customer is waiting on his or her drink, especially if you are working at a busy night club.
Another must from a bartender, especially you are working in a pub or tavern, will be your people skills. It is very important to interact with your customers. The better you try and serve your customers and interact with them, the more likely they are to return, and not only that the more money you will make overall.
In the United States, mostly all bartenders are payed minimum wage. So their main source of income will be coming from tips, which is a custom in almost every country. Bartenders must also be strict when it comes to checking if that person is old enough to drink alcohol or not.
So there is much more to being a bartender than just serving alcohol as you can see. The most important thing you must do well is your people skills since the majority of bartenders work for tips. The better people skills you have the more money you will see coming in.
Before you try and get into the challenging world of mixing drinks you need to know the ropes, for that purpose the author has written an excellent report that covers bartending tips for newbies and how to become a bartender.
