Green DIY energy is a great way to incorporate renewable energy into your home for a small investment, in most cases less than $200. Many times a professional system and installation will be quite expensive but you can still use renewable energy without breaking the bank. However a large cost is associated with what happens to any excess energy you collect. Green insulation is also important as you can get the most from your money by installing environmentally friendly but effective insulation. This means you will not lose as much heat in the winter and your home will stay cooler in the summer without needed to crank up the heating or air conditioning.
The way you have your furniture placed is also important as you do not want to block any air vents. Having excellent air flow ensures that you only need a little bit of energy to make a huge difference. It is also important to make sure all of your doors and windows properly seal so that air is not escaping. You can also use timers and motion sensor lights to keep your light usage to a minimum; this is particularly effective with outdoor lighting.

There has been a lot of attention lately regarding how we, as a nation, need to focus on using renewable energy sources and solar power is one of the most popular resources that we have. Being self-reliant is a huge selling point since when using solar power for your home, you can be a self contained unit and not rely on mainstream electrical resources. As mentioned above, depending on where you live this might not be practical to rely solely on the sun for power; while other, less developed, areas might benefit immensely by being able to power homes and schools with the sun without needing to have power plants and run electrical cables.
