Reduce Your Risk of Blood Clots when Traveling: 5 Tips

After an average road trip and flight in 1999, the doctor diagnosed me with a deep vein thrombosis or DVT - essentially a blood clot - in my lower leg.
You don’t hear much about the risk of travel-related clots here in the United States. In Britain, though, DVTs are known as Long Haul syndrom, and travelers are informed about the possiblities of blood clots forming on extensive plane trips.
I didn’t know I had a clot; it felt more like a muscle cramp. But it put me in the hospital for more than 10 days, where I had a painful heparin drip and a six-month regimen of blood thinners. Here’s what you can do so a clot doesn’t happen to you:
1. If you’re in the car and driving a long distance, stop and walk often. You need to walk around to keep blood from pooling in your legs.
2. When flying, get up and stretch your legs if possible. I always try to get an exit row so I have greater mobility. Again, you need to keep your blood moving. If the attendants discourage you from getting up, try to move your legs around by flexing your feet and ankles.
3. Pop a baby aspirin when traveling. I take one every day, as aspirin in general helps iwth vascular and cardio health
4. Pack compression stockings to wear on the plane. Ok, they certainly aren’t fashionable. But I generally do try to wear them on longer flights to increase blood flow to the lower legs. You can find the knee-high versions at Rite-Aid, CVS, Target, Wal-Mart and other drug stores. Wearing loose clothing also helps.
5. Stay hydrated. Dehydration can lead to blood thickening - which can lead to clots. At the very least, chugging down water will make you get up to use the bathroom, so you’re moving around.

When you go abroad anywhere there are always going to be dangers that you are not necessarily privy to and will not understand. As such you need to make sure that you stay as safe as possible by asking around and conducting a little research on the possible dangers where you are going. When you travel to Ho Chi Ming city there are going to be a few danger that could catch you out. Here are three main ones.
The first danger is something of a double pronged affair and this is something that the locals will tell you about if you ask about what sort of situations to avoid as a tourist. Down at the waterfront you will commonly get large groups of young people on their motorbikes cruising around. Whilst they do not necessarily mean harm to tourists they can be quite wild and travel in large packs.
You should also remember that motorbike taxis are also something that can be very dangerous. You may see some people with large grazes on their bodies and these are those who got away lightly. When you travel on the back of a motorbike taxi make sure that they give you a helmet or do not get on at all.
The second main thing that you have to think about will be the level of safety that you have in your hotel. This will not be about you personal safety but that of your belongings being stolen. This will vary massively from place to place but it is always a good idea to put your valuables into a safe that the hotel have behind the reception desk when you leave the hotel for the day.
The last place to be wary of is certainly somewhere where you could be injured and this is when doing something as simple as crossing the road. The streets in the city are so busy that often finding somewhere to cross safely can be a nightmare. As such you should look to keep an eye on the local and study their tricks. Most will simply gently get in front of the traffic and keep going as the cars drive round them.

Planning a San Diego Vacation

If you have decided on visiting San Diego, you probably already know that it has good weather almost all year round. It is probably one of the reasons why you picked it, along with the fact that there is a lot to do there. Recently my wife and I opened a business and found that our travel itinerary increased dramatically. Now, like any one, I love traveling but it does begin to wear on you the more you find yourself away from home. With that said, there is one benefit to traveling that we find most enjoyable. Yes, flying first-class is a great perk and renting a convertible in sunny California is nice however my favorite traveling experiences is tasting all of the wonderful cuisine that each city we travel to has to offer. In fact, many of these places are probably not what many would call five star restaurants rather they are probably a lot of diners, drive-ins and dives that would make the top of your list.
With that in mind, I have put together a list of tips to help you on your next trip so that it is much more fun, enjoyable, and unforgettable.
Begin to keep a food diary When traveling to a place you’ve never been to before, every time you eat out, whether its room service or take out, grab a copy of the menu and note the name, address, phone number and what you had to eat. If the experience was good make a note and if it was bad, make a large note. This is helpful because if you have to travel there again, you don’t have to try to remember the name of the place, where it was and more importantly, what you had to eat.
Take a picture with the chef Taking a picture with the chef can be an interesting thing to do when visiting another city. It gives you the chance to meet the person who is responsible for your tasty dish and offers the chance to meet someone knew. The pictures you will have for a lifetime and will be a good conversation starter when your return home.
Ask a local If you really want to find out what’s good to eat, ask a local. They will be able to tell you better than anyone what’s good and what ain’t. They can truly make the difference between a boring food experience and an exciting one.
Order Dessert To Go Instead of treating yourself to dessert, try treating some unsuspecting restaurant patron to dessert. Tell the waitress that you are going to pay for a particular person’s dessert, whatever they want. Tell her that you’d like to remain anonymous. Now see how good it feels to do something for somebody else without any recognition.

Catch a train up the coast to Carlsbad and visit Legoland California. It is great for any age and a fun day trip. They have an aquarium attached that is fun. You won’t have to fight traffic as you ride the train and visit while watching the ocean view. You can also stay near to San Diego and visit Sea World.
If you want to learn about San Diego history you can visit Old Town. There you can see the original village that was founded in San Diego and see the first Wells Fargo Building and many other interesting pieces of the history there. You can sample Mexican cuisine at many restaurants, watch taffy being made and even visit a haunted house.

Del Mar - Where The Beautiful People Are

Imagine a romantic vacation getaway to a quiet, relaxing and scenic village on the beautiful Pacific Ocean. This getaway has charming hotels and Inns, phenomenal restaurants and miles of gorgeous beaches. It’s just those elements that make up the gem that is called Del Mar, California.
Del Mar is Spanish for “of the sea” because it is located right on the shores of the Pacific Ocean. Del Mar has been home to celebrities ever since the 1940’s: Bing Crosby and his friend Jimmy Durante worked together to help turn the Del Mar Race Track into the most beautiful and prestigious race tracks in the horse racing world. One could often find Lucille Ball and Desi Arnez at the track. Other celebrities wanted to be closer, so Burt Bacharach and Angie Dickenson purchased residences in Del Mar. Del Mar is a tiny community consisting of only two square miles along the Pacific Ocean in Northern San Diego County. The population of Del Mar is somewhere between 4000 and 5000 residents (depending on who does the counting). “Del-Marians” live among beautiful sandstone canyons or on bluff tops overlooking the ocean - and they all enjoy gorgeous sunsets.
Del Mar is home to the endangered Torrey Pine, the rarest species of pine tree in the United States. Only two populations of this endangered species exist - one in Torrey Pines State Reserve the other in Del Mar proper.
The San Diego County Fair is hosted on the Del Mar Fairgrounds every summer, opening on a 184 acre site in the San Dieguito Valley in 1936. It was determined to be the perfect spot because it was just off the main highways and would be easily accessible - while being near the ocean’s cooling factor on hot summer days. Selection of a queen - the Fairest of the Fair - is a highlight of this annual event.
Singer Bing Crosby took the front role to help bring the now-world-famous Del Mar Race Track into reality. In 1937 the Del Mar Race Track opened to newspapers calling it “Bing’s Baby”. Bing later recorded a song that would eventually open and close every day of racing at Del Mar - Where The Turf Meets the Surf.
Terry Hunefeld gave up his position as a corporate CEO in 2007 to spend more time at sea. Packing for a ski holiday could be tough especially if you have to take a flight. Lots and lots of airlines nowadays are billing for additional bags and especially for heavy ones. It is not unusual for people to pay as much as their flight ticket in extra luggage costs. If you think you are going to have to travel with a lot of stuff with you on a vacation it would be a good idea to travel with the flight company with the best luggage allowance or one that provides cheaper costs.
On most ski vacation resorts the flight companies are used to travellers taking skis and they generally to take this into consideration. Make sure you notify the flight company well ahead if not at the time of making your reservation that you will be taking skis and get them reserved. The airline will have a limit on the number of skis they can take on each trip. You do not want to be in the nightmare position that you arrive at the airport and you can not take your skis with you.
If you are a beginner to skiing or do not want to take your skis with you then you will usually find that you should be able to rent skis, ski boots and suitable attire in virtually every ski destination. Just check your ski resorts facilities on the net or speak to the hotel you are staying in for some local knowledge.
If you simply are unable to do without all your clothing and stuff you can organize to have a suitcase transported before your flight by a courier company. With the large excess baggage costs on some flights you could discover that it is easier to ship your stuff cheaper than pay these additional costs. Make it even more affordable by sharing the cost with the individuals you are travelling with.
Ski jackets and sweaters can be large and will take up a lot of space in any luggage. Why not wear them on the flight instead. It may be to hot to do this but you can take these items on the plane with you and when you arrive in the colder ski resort you can immediately put your jacket and jumper on and get the benefit immediately.
Do not forget the greater you plan and get organized the more smoothly things will go and the less hassled you will be.
